I guess only those with an interest or knowledge of the group (or musical harmony) need apply, but since this great musicology is heading to these shores in september, I felt compelled to attempt to put a compilation of some great Dan clips and/or shots.

Being a fan of 70's music I like Steely Dan but haven't got any of their Cds..yet. I know they were a peerless studio band and wasn't "Reelin in the Years" theirs? Like that one..Or "Rikki Don't Lose That Number"?

Am going to the Adelaide concert - and the tickets cost buckets,
thank god they give you a tax invoice.

Just to see and hear if they can nail 'Peg'.

Oooh a top 5
1. Peg
2. Do it again
3. My old school
4. Babylon Sisters
5. Reelin' in the Years... no wait Bodhisattva.....maybe even FM....or Hey Nineteen...perhaps Haitian Divorce.

Not a big fan of 'Rikki'

Heard of them, but never heard any of their songs. Anyone wanna give me a top 5?
1. Kid Charlemagne
2. FM
3. My Old School
4. Hey Nineteen
5. Dirty Work

The don't have any obvious ones. They have a good 20 or so songs that are all on the same level. Ask 20 different people to name their top 5 and you'll get 20 different answers. The only definite for me is Kid Charlemagne.

Reelin in the Years, Rikki Don't Lose that Number, and Do It Again are prbably their most well known songs.

Hey 19
Bodavista
reelin in the years
dirty work
Fm
Classic band great harmoneys and studio wizards going to the perth show:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Couldn't do it really. Bunsen Burner was spot on. Different people will have differing opinions. My top 10 would be in no particular order;

Kid Charlemagne
Black Friday
Josie
My Old School
Only A Fool Would Say That
Parkers Band
Night By Night
Deacon Blues
Glamour Profession
Dirty Work

But then I'd have another top 10 etc etc.

Anyone else see them yet??

I was at the Brisbane show on Sunday Night and apart from the lack of suitability of the venue (the entertainment centre) this was one incredible show.

A really varied playlist:

Some obvious ones like: Hey Nineteen, Do It Again, Two Against Nature, Aja, Kid Charlemagne, Bodhisattva

And a couple that I didn't expect: Haitian Divorce, Dirty Work

Absolutely loved it, red hot musicians playing great songs and then listening to people piss and moan on the way out cos they didn't play "Rikki".

Great show and a great night

Really enjoyed World Party as well. Been a fan of Karl Wallinger since he was in the Waterboys and it was great to finally see him live.

The community radio station I'm at absolutely flog the shit out of Steely Dan to such an extent that I can't listen to them anymore. The breakfast shift announcer on Wednesday morning played four pf their tracks in 90 mins yesterday after going to their Sydney concert the night before.

Talk about overkill and making sure that you never want to listen to a specific act at all.

Not a huge Steely Dan Fan but went along to the Adelaide concert cause I got a free ticket. Good musicians but not really my cup of tea. They didn't play Ricki or Reelin in the years which for me was a little dissappointing because they were really the only songs I knew. Spose I can't complain as it was corporate hopitality and all.

Love Steely Dan, i always kinda lump them in with the Doobie Brothers and Steve Miller in my middle of the road rock faves.

Reelin in the Years hold a special place for me as there's a great Larry Bird/Magic Johnson retrospective on an NBA video i have where they use reeling in the years to back the images.
