Hi All,

This is my first post, have been a tragic supporter for all my 29 years and am pretty excited about the prospects we selected on the weekend.

We have one spot in the PSD and the word is that we will go for Steve McKee as a ruckman. Surely we don't need to go the Ben Marsh road again and we can begin to develop our own ruckman. I think Pat Steinfort is the last genuine ruckman we drafted.

Guy Richards, Dean Cox, David Hille, Jamie Charman, Rhett Biglands & Dean Brogan are just a few examples of clubs who have been patient with big men and the results are starting to pay off. Surely a ruckman can fit in our five-year plan.

The only issue is , that with the salary cap pressure who else aside from McKee can we pick up in December??

i think the club should make space for 2 picks. (offload zantuck, put richo on the vets list, or cut a player) that will let us pick up the best young player who missed out AND steve Mckee with our 2nd pick. there were some really good players missed out at the draft and mckee would be good insurance.

Zantuck is a real thorn our side at the moment. The little pri@k. I hope he rots in the vfl next year. Wallace would be crazy to play him and ruin the young guns we've reacruited. We should take out a court order to prevent zantuck from going with 100 meters of them.

I'd prefer this guy.I've only seen him a few times but I don't see why he couldn't make it.

From footydraft
Scott Meyer
Details:
Club: Beaconsfield/Gippsland
DOB: 17 April 1986 Hgt: 195cm Wgt: 80kg
Position: Full Forward/Ruck
Natural Foot: Left

Honours:
Victoria Country 2003 (Emergency)
State Screening Camp 2004

TAC Stats:
2003: 16 games, 8 goals, 9.8 PPG
2004: 20 games, 13 goals, 10.3 PPG

Strengths: Scott is a skinny key position player who alternates between the ruck and forward line.

Is capable of taking a pack mark and kicking a few goals, and is also more than handy in the ruck, knows how to tap the ball. Also has good pace for his size.

Weaknesses: Probably too small for ruck and not mobile enough for a key position. Can look good in patches then go missing for large periods. Struggles below knee level. Was also overlooked last year.

Footydraft.com comment: A club might punt on him for a rookie list but he probably didn't do enough in 2004 to be drafted.

I think we'll go McKee, our ruck stocks are far too thin and if we lose one or two we are stuffed. We can't rely on a kid, especially one who wasn't picked up in the national draft, to be able to step in and play.

McKee isn't too bad around the ground, better than Knobel. If the rule changes come in it should help him at stoppages too. He will be minimum wage too which will help whereas Knobel will cost the $$$.

If we can get rid of Zantuck we will hopefully take someone like Kirkby with PSD#1, then McKee with PSD second round pick, then we still have first crack at the best remaining kids in the rookie draft.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we got Mckee back. Is ok as a fallback in defense to help out on the bigger forwards. Ruck duels aren't that important these days. You only have to look at ottens. He got almost every hithout and they were taken away by the opposition 9 times out of 10.

Exactly, who cares whos tapping em as long as they are mobile and put up a good contest when you've got Johnson, Brown, Coughlan, Rodan, Deliudo, Tambling, Meyer & co winning the ball!

On a unrelated note I also think the name "Bling Bling" is pretty gay but I won't lose any sleep over it!

It's DELEDIO corporal. FFS. Deliudo sounds like that ex carlton hack.

Hi guys new to this site, hope all are happy with the draft picks as i am!!!

Only worry i have is in height, but i think a few ppl have that same worry.

I feel that if we go for MCkee we are going down the wrong track, we need someone with mobility like a Trent Carroll CHB and he has the height to run through the ruck too, dont forget we still have Hall.

Anyway the Bling Bling nickname is wrong on all levels!!!!

BTW- Porter wouldnt be too bad but we run the risk of the same thing as we would with Mckee.

Wouldn't you guys go Porter / Knobel ahead of Stevey?

I rate Porter lower than McKee, he hasn't shown anything in a long time and is getting on now as well.

Knobel is an interesting one, he'll put a price on his head, which is a major reason we wouldn't get him. He is also poor around the ground, gets very few possesions. But he is still quite young so it's an area he might improve on. Also he wants to be the number one ruckman and I don't think he would be if he came to Richmond.

If the rule changes favour McKee, I believe he could be quite effective as our third ruckman, he would certainly expect to see some time given Stafford seems to miss plenty of matches each year and Hall really isn't a ruckman.

Horrible example of someone we need.. Trent Carroll would be killed in the ruck... Literally

i'd be really ********ed if we got mckee. graham made more sense than mckee - since the rule change he is as useful a 18 fiora's and 36 plapps - and brad ottens heart. this year we sucked in ruck. so what? i doubt next year is gonna be much different. when stkilda picked up nick and justin its not like they all of a sudden were competitive. it'll take time. a whole lotta precious time..

i'd prefer if we just blood tested zantuck and sacked him for using recreational drugs - like chelsea did with adrian mutu. he'd the kind of tool kit to be on that type of gear, especially at this time of year. if zantuck plays senior footy next year - id be very suprised if he didnt get booed by his own the whole season. who is he to think he can walk around acting like he is too good for richmond. BOO THAT MAN!

they should make zantuck have to do a few press conference's and make him have to start answering these questions himself - he is weak and will quit because he wont be able to handle the pressure dished out on him. then once we get rid of that $220,000 - $250,000 a year, over paid, scumbag - take knobel and a kid in the PSD. Zantuck is dreaming if he thinks he will be treated with anything but total disrespect by the richmond fans next year - and after that no club will take him on - and his career will be over. no one wants a steven lawrence of laurne angwin.

If we get McKee back we can pretend the McKee + pick 7 (Danny Roach) for Clinton King + pick 3 (Fiora) deal never happened. I think Richmond and Collingwood fans would all be happy to erase that one from the memory banks.

Of McKee v Knobel, I agree with Jezza. Both are equally ordinary, but McKee will be cheaper and occasionally gets a kick. I'm not a big rap for picking up seconds players to fill a gap for injury or 5-10 minute quarters though. Would prefer to take a punt on a kid who has missed being drafted in the last couple of years and is running around in a state league or even country or suburban footy. At least then there is a remote chance of improvement.

No thanks to Mckee. We got rid of him a few years ago so we could have Clinton King, now Collingwood don't want him either. I don't want recycled garbage ;). Either pay a few more dollars for Knobel who is one of the best at getting his hand to ball in the AFL. He is also a big kick and pretty athletic. He isn't that bad around the ground. I'm sure he is capable of dropping into defence for a few marks. Or pick up a young ruckman. Offload the disgruntled Zantuck and try pick up a young tall defender also. All we need is a young ruckman and young tall defender and we would have done our homework ;)
