--------------

CARLTON midfielder Nick Stevens has suffered a significant setback as he works overtime to get his body in shape for season 2009.
Again the midfielder took off to Warrnambool to work one-on-one and shed some weight over two weeks with boxing guru Rodney Ryan. But the trip hit a snag when Stevens strained a hamstring.

The Blues declined to talk about his whereabouts, saying only that he had been training away from the main group.

"We don't talk about where our players are or have been," Carlton media manager Ian Coutts said.

Stevens, 28, was put through a daily regime of six hours of boxing plus exhausting running drills up and down the many sand dunes around Warrnambool.

how can someone who does a physical labour job like landscaping & also gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play professional football have a weight problem ?
Last pre seasons "but i had a neck injury" was hard to understand as he had been training (albeit without physical contact or tackling) for several months. He could still run & swim ( & more importantly actually control his eating habits) to at least keep himself fit but instead he came back a bit tubby. Now he's off to a fat farm getting flogged to lose excess kilo's & done a hammy.
& people wondered why he wasnt chosen captain.

curlier than a catoggio pube

Maybe it's not the food he has to watch...glug ...glug ;)

Exactly!! and IMO Stevo believes he's a walk up starter into our starting 22 on game day:rolleyes:
Maybe he's actually doing something about it now we have some up and coming young talent with our younger kids coming through, he may be a bit concerned getting his"usual" place on the team.
This guy should be paid on a performance base,he's never consistent,he only runs half pace the majority of the time AND why shouldnt he when he knows he has such strong back up with the professionalism of Juddy????
Lazy player:thumbsd:

So he's strained a hamstring - big deal!
He'll still be able to do a fair bit of work to keep his weight down, and the pleasing aspect to that article was how hard he is actually working.

And maybe, just maybe, he's just one of these people who just find it difficult to keep their weight down, and has to work twice as hard as other people/footballers to do so.

Maybe, but he's always at a pub near his house...maybe he should switch to pure blondes

Wait ... didn't everyone meet their weight targets and Stevo is just doing some extra tailored training? I'd be pretty annoyed with the club if they are making hollow threats or worse still, allowing senior players to get away with stuff the lesserlights have to go through.

The club said it wasn't a fat farm and Stevo was not overweight but the article said he was off shedding kilos.

Which is it?

I don't mind them keeping disciplinary stuff in-house but then they shouldn't have publicised the ultimatum in the first place.

Stevo may be lucky we didn't get Rich yesterday. Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Rich as our starting midfield ... well Stevo might find himself a bench player more than he would like.

Hopefully the article is not correct and he is there for more tailored training and not weight loss.

Not good news for Stevo.

We all have flaws, but at least he's working hard to compact them for his, and the clubs own good.

Hopefully he can come back after the Christmas break and continue to work hard as he has been during the off season.

Stevens really isn't looking that flash lately I'm afraid ... :D

its not a fat farm... club stated as much the other day. stevo just struggles with weight and in order to reach optimal fitness does extra work, i cant see how he deserves criticism because of this seeings as how the club still maintains everyone met skinfold targets

We got Mitch Robinson instead, so Stevo could still find himself under pressure for his spot in the midfield. I must admit I really like the look of Robinson.

Crap article made for the morons who inhabit BigFooty en masse...

Nothing in it.

Who knew a footballer could do a hamstring?

Stevens will go back to playing as an attacking outside player like he was at Port.

Even I wouldn't pick Robinson ahead of Stevens. ;)

Why do we have Robinson walking into our 22?
