I expect to get shouted down for even mentioning this but with all the trade talk with Fev and Lance I wanted to suggest Stevens as a trade.

I believe that Carlton are more undermanned with leadership than ability. Stevens to my mind is not a leader who will take us to a flag. He is very skilled but as yet unproven under the heat. He does however have a big rep and would I believe net us some pretty big interest from other clubs.

My question is what could we get for him. If we could get a skilled and hard headed star from elsewhere I think we could start to make some quick ground back up the ladder. We have Murphy coming to the club for our midfield. Perhaps we could get a gun defender.

I would also strongly suggest getting rid of Campo even if we dont get a trade. My gut feeling is that he and Stevo are not very positive influences on the mental toughness of our side. We have some highly skilled players who are under performing. I believe that without Nick and Campo our on field attitude would really rise and their departure could bring some ready made quality into the side.

This is just my opinion and I would invite creative and rational replies rather than reactive ones please.

from what i have heard and seen, Stevens role is more of a leader than Kouta, stevens is the one who address to the players and tries to pep them up- many would say the voice the players look for, while kouta is the captain and a leader, his is quieter and his leadership style is about leading by example in his preperation and onfield performance.

stevens has player the 2nd 1/2 of the year injured and is one player who always walks off the ground looking like he is genuinally upset/disappointed we have lost.

to be a top team you need to have 8-10 midfielders in your rotation

trading stevens is not going to strengthen our midfield. in 2 seasons at the club he has finished top 2 in the B&F, which says in the clubs mind he is performing
not many at carlton have performed under the heat

if we want to get rid of talent for draft picks or other players we should be looking at players who are inconsistent, underperforming or don't have the clubs best interest at heart
lappin- wants 3 year contract
fevola- doesn't realise what talent he has and how great he could become
whitnall- very inconsistent
houlihan- inconsistent
campo- wants 3 year contract

I still think back to Stevens first ever game for us last year against North when he pulled together all the players before they went out for the last quarter and addressed them. Kouta, Campo and all the other supposed leaders were there but it was Stevens that addressed the group.

That was leadership. We'd be mad to get rid of him.

No.

Got 2 years to run on his contract for starters. Is very professional and had 2 good years with us even though he is tagged every week.
Good attitude and a hard trainer and lifts the standard around the place.

Think the direct opposite of Campo and you would be right.

Your damn right your going to get shouted at!
Stevens is undoubtedly the best player on our list as evident in this years Brownlow. He is a great leader and I bet Port would pay fortunes to get him back on their team.

Haha, bitter and twisted Power supporters. I guess we should thank you for taking that heartless moron off our hands.

Opinion noted...

Stevens is our best player. I think you're looking at things from an accountability POV. No, he's not accountable for an opponent.... opponents are accountable for him and that's the way it should be. More often that not he will hurt them more than vice versa.

There is no-one going around better than Stevens. All he needs is some support from his team-mates. He's Carlton's next captain.

That said, I would trade Campo in a heartbeat. Not a patch on Stevens as a player, and has held the club to ransom. Well past his best, trying to play as a ball-winning in and under type when he should be using his speed and delivery as an outsider. Ordinarily skilled. Has ridden the wave of playing with greats like Kouta, Bradley, Kernahan, Silvagni.... and we fell for the trap of thinking he was in their class.

If he is as good as you guys seem to think could you at least humour me a little and suggest who we could get for him. Your opinions of him prove to me just how rated he is which is why I believe he would net us a great trade.

I still dont think his worth is anywhere near his status which is why I wanted to float the idea of a trade whilst his reputation is so high. As far as leadership anyone can talk, it is the words and energy that make the difference. Kouta has real precence and his energy speaks very loudly. Our most famous captain Big Nick was not a massive talker but had heaps of precence. I just dont believe Nick has this. Like Campo he can talk and direct but with little impact.

This is mentioned in the Port Adelaide report card:

WHAT PORT NEEDS

They need pace and class in the midfield (Nick Stevens would be handy).

Unless Waite reallly steps up (hopefully) ;)

Ye have to agree with you, would hope that since there is a year till the new captain, Waite can step up and become captain for the next 10 years.

Some people never cease to amaze...a comment like that from a supporter of a team who play well when the mood strikes them.My club is in a position with a player they are trying to move heaven and earth for and I hope they just get pipped out of it to spit in the face of smarta*** PA supporters...

Id say Stevens would be similar to the trade between adelaide and richmond when richmond traded pick 4 for johnson i believe. So ud say pick 3 or 5 perhaps or a very good defender. Having said that i dont think for one minuite we should or will trade stevens hes our next captain and the only player who performs each week.
