What if they fly low, and fast from the coast inward.
It's a 777! With security the way it is and the public very worried, word would get out.

Well how long would it take fighter jets to scramble out and shoot the thing down?

Depends where you are. I'm not sure about Australia, but it's less likely to be us than a country with better military capabilities.

In the US, for example, they are on their toes with this sort of thing. I doubt it would take them too long. In our example, probably longer.

Surely the plane is out in the ocean somewhere then? It would have been detected had it gone inland.

Really? They have nfi where it is period.

I mean what if this was carefully planned over a series of years. The plane was flown directly to a purpose built remote facility. a few months later it gets ready for an attack.

No I mean like wouldn't India, China, etc notice the plane on their more advanced land radars if it went inland?

I still think pilot suicide. Pilot turns off transceivers, locks the co-pilot in the passenger cabin, turns plane towards Indian Ocean.

He is probably so stricken from guilt and shame he decides to fly plane as far as he can before taking it down to his and everyone else s deaths, hoping the wreckage wont be ever found.

If it's pilot suicide why would he take 240 people with him? Why not just neck yaself at home?
Depression is mental illness. He would not have been thinking clearly with his rational. Crashing a plane would be instantaneous death.

To take down 200+ with you, however? An unforgivable act.

Worst thing that can happen now is we never find out anything
At least a terrorist attack will end the suspense and speculation

Nope passengers would have made contact when co pilot runs down the aisle exclaiming what is happening

There was a case in US where a transport company employee got himself on a flight for the sole purpose of bringing it down, so that his family would collect life insurance money on the basis it was an "accident" (he disabled recording devices).

He managed to smuggle a spear gun on the plane and ended up in an epic fight with the flight crew (no other passengers).
The crew eventually managed to subdue him, but suffered severe injuries (they didn't fly again).
Was an episode of Air Crash Investigation, incredible case.

There's an axe on board. No way one pilot could keep the crew at bay for hours by locking them out.

Think the black box only records the last 30 minutes, so even if they find it, it mightn't tell the full story.

It's not pilot suicide, it's a murder-suicide. Any pilot who does that deserves to rot in the ground. Depression is a serious illness and suicide is tragic but taking nearly 240 people with you is a despicable act of selfishness.
