There was a photo making the rounds from a passenger on another flight that showed a object in the air on fire. The guy said it was a plane but every one thought it was bogus that a plane would be on fire mid air...If that letter can be verified as legit that could be the best lead so far.

If it is so, How the fk does a plane catch fire and still fly? Possibly why there's no debris? It's all burnt out

Makes you wonder whether the terrorists were trying to fly it into the Petronas Towers and the military shot it down.

Malaysia are hiding something. Wouldn't be surprised if they shot it down. They are running this like a
circus

I'm beginning to think this way. 777s have never been involved in a mid-air hull loss and they are being very dodgy. They may be a little afraid of the Chinese reaction.

Pilot's last words 'alright goodnight'. Can we read anything into these words?

That was in response to the Malaysian air traffic control people telling him that he was going into Vietnamese air space and would be transferring over to their air traffic control.

Im going to Singapore in about a months time flying on a cheap asian airline, that uses the Boeing 777-200ERs.....

I really want to cancel my holiday, especially with all of the talk about how there are major issues with this plane just reported a month ago.

The tickets were cheap, but i already paid for the hotel, all up i could lose $600

Relax and enjoy your trip.

It's been shot down for sure, planes don't disappear in this day and age. They crash but they don't magically disappear from radar, I can't believe how poorly this story has been portrayed to the media by the Malaysian government, it's amateur hour over there. Hi-Jacked (it's been reported the plane was flying at low altitude and diverted course too), then boom. Shot down to save more civilians, Malaysia should just admit to it already.

that seems possible

If they where found of lying and trying to cover it up, I'd be all for nuking them of this planet

I personally wouldn't cancel the trip - things like this are one in a million, and it's even less likely for lightning to strike twice. Such a small chance that I'd say there's probably more chance of staying home and dying in a car accident. Still, it's your call and I understand the concern (myself, I am flying with Malaysian Airlines 2 months from now).

If they shot it down they would have been better off coming out straight away and admitted it, they would have had 911 to protect them against any backlash.

If they did shoot it down ( was my first opinion on what happened ) there is no way that will ever get leaked.

You'd take out a country of 28 million people because of the actions of so few? That's ****ing ridiculous. You're a chump.

My colleague Tania Branigan has just filed this update on how the search progressed today:

The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight was descending into confusion and acrimony on Wednesday as Vietnam called off part of its search pending further information from Malaysia.

As families spent a fifth day waiting for news of flight MH370, which vanished with 239 people on board, disagreements within the international search operation were surfacing and Malaysian officials failed to clarify the aircraft’s last known movement

Vietnam have also halted part of their search efforts:

Vietnam said it had halted its air search and scaled back a sea search while it waited for Malaysia to offer more detail.

“We’ve decided to temporarily suspend some search and rescue activities, pending information from Malaysia,” deputy minister of transport Pham Quy Tieu told AFP.

Asked about the claim that the plane had last been detected over the Strait of Malacca - suggesting it had crossed the entire peninsula - he replied: “We’ve asked Malaysian authorities twice, but so far they have not replied to us.

“We informed Malaysia on the day we lost contact with the flight that we noticed the flight turned back west but Malaysia did not respond.”

Malaysia’s air force chief denied telling a local newspaper that the aircraft was last detected at 2.40am on the western coast of the Malay peninsula by a military radar - a detail confirmed to news agencies by at least one unnamed military official.

That apparent sighting would mean the plane was known to be in the air more than an hour later than previously thought, and had not only turned around but flown right across the peninsula - helping to explain why the search had expanded from the area between Malaysia and Vietnam, to cover a large area to the west.

Apparently he did try and contact officials with no success. Not sure you would want to go the media with it first.
If thats right, the plane is way off course, went down in a flaming fireball and the officials didnt want to hear about it, then that sounds like takeover, shot down and covered up.

Agree with this... it is very unsettling, that's for sure, especially because we still don't know what happened. However, because catastrophic events such as this one are so rare, you could say that whenever a plane crashes, the risk of another crash drops, since a plane crash is a local event that allows serial adjustment through learning ("what kills me makes others stronger"). As terrible a tragedy as this is, if anything it will actually help save lives in the future by making us more alert to things that might cause us harm (whether they might be mechanical defects, hijackers, terrorists, or pilot errors).
