I'm still very surprised that S&R has not followed up on the Cathay reports of wreckage 120nm SE of Ho Chi Minh...coming from the crew of another airliner, you'd think the authorities order it be checked out...the search area as I understand is only 100nm around the area from which it disappeared, but it could've continued forward for some distance before crashing, especially if the pilots had some form of control over the aircraft.

I'll go with 8% certain. 777s have more grey with black rafts from my reading. These are more likely marine rafts.
Thank you. It begs the question though as to why there is that kinda raft just floating about. Then again, it is the Malacca straight which most likely is dirty as all hell.

I'm pretty sure multiple ships have been sent there and none have found the reported debris.

I posted this letter on Twitter and to a Vietnamese journo covering this and he said that Email was received and investigated but nothing found in the area.
odd, this is where the Cathay Pacific crew observed wreckage...but Malaysia Airlines said it wasn't the route because it was to overfly HCM. If the pilot was trying to avoid crashing on land then he might've maneuvered away from HCM.

The Malacca Strait is one of the most important shipping lanes in the world, it's probably full of rafts and other ship bits.

Too true. If the plane did indeed crash in there, then surely a ship saw it? Hence why I believe it ain't there. I'm still going with a mid air hijacking by a military aircraft.
