A press conference by the Malaysian authorities on the latest on the search for the missing plane is due to get underway any moment in Kuala Lumpur. Those expected to appear included Malaysia’s defence and acting transport minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, and its civil aviation chief, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman.

747 has been involved in 126 accidents or incidents, resulting in 2,861 fatalities.

As far as records, the 747 has the dubious distinction of 3 separate record death tolls: the highest death toll of any single aviation accident ever (520), the highest death toll of any single airplane accident (583), the highest death toll of a mid-air collision (349).

- Wiki
as it carries the largest number of passengers pre 380 chances are if things go pear shaped it has an unfair advantage as far as holding those records goes.
The only aircraft I have ever been genuinely apprehensive about flying on was an MD11 that VARIG in Brazil they use to use on internal flights between Sao Paulo and Fortaleza, firstly it had to be nearly 20 years old and secondly it was very similar to the DC10 and they don't make them like that any more.

Don't know where this is from:

I posted this letter on Twitter and to a Vietnamese journo covering this and he said that Email was received and investigated but nothing found in the area.

I'm still very surprised that S&R has not followed up on the Cathay reports of wreckage 120nm SE of Ho Chi Minh...coming from the crew of another airliner, you'd think the authorities order it be checked out...the search area as I understand is only 100nm around the area from which it disappeared, but it could've continued forward for some distance before crashing, especially if the pilots had some form of control over the aircraft.

I'll go with 8% certain. 777s have more grey with black rafts from my reading. These are more likely marine rafts.

Thank you. It begs the question though as to why there is that kinda raft just floating about. Then again, it is the Malacca straight which most likely is dirty as all hell.

I'm pretty sure multiple ships have been sent there and none have found the reported debris.

odd, this is where the Cathay Pacific crew observed wreckage...but Malaysia Airlines said it wasn't the route because it was to overfly HCM. If the pilot was trying to avoid crashing on land then he might've maneuvered away from HCM.

The Malacca Strait is one of the most important shipping lanes in the world, it's probably full of rafts and other ship bits.

Too true. If the plane did indeed crash in there, then surely a ship saw it? Hence why I believe it ain't there. I'm still going with a mid air hijacking by a military aircraft.

Would be epic if that was the case
