Well well well...

The others can pretend to be the biggest
The others can live off their desperate attempts to be successful
The others need the be firing to be someone

We just need to be Collingwood - imagine if we were strong on field

On another note, why the hell are Gold Coast still around?

Umm you know that massive tv rights deal AFL signed... Suns and GWS are kind of a big reason for that... When Brisbane and Suns finally come good. Watch those memberships explode and ratings in Queensland sky rocket. Narrow minded cheap shots at our newest clubs is just... well... so narrow minded

Well, this a surprise. So much for all the crowing from the media about Richmond being the biggest club.

On a side note,i'm surprised that Sydney has so many members. That must be a record for them.

Wow!
That must men top Four at the least.
Oh wait.......
We are a laughable club in the world of AFL.
Thank f@rk we have enough less than menza member prepared to part with their hard earned.

That might be because barracking for the Pies, and forking out to be a member, is an emotional decision and not an intellectual one.

If there's a more ironic statement on this forum, I'll be damned if I can find it.

So Perty gets us to no.1 in membership and loses his job while Bucks has us at no.13 on football ladder and somehow still keeps his job.

Both should be departing the club.

EFA. We've had no member growth in 6 years that's why Pert left. Wait until the membership revenue is released. It'll be lower than last year.

I'm quite surprised at those figures, but I really shouldn't be; Collingwood supporters have over my lifetime, generally put their hands in their pockets to support their team. No finals for four years and still No.1 for membership says a lot about us. Next year it will be interesting to see Hawthorn's numbers. Are their supporters as fickle as I think they are?

Surprised though to see so many use the figures as yet another bat with which to bash Buckley.

IMO, it's a sign of people seeing the bigger picture rather than just accepting a manipulated number.

Between 2011 and 2016 we lost $6 million in revenue from matchday, AFL distribution and memberships. I know our distribution has reduced, but not by more than a couple of million.

Our bottom line has taken a big hit through flagging performance and it's only been a change in accounting treatment that's concealed it.

I'm curious as to whether our 75 number includes AFLW and Netball memberships.
Yes so I think we should stop beating our collective chests about being number one.
Although we could look upon not dropping off as a positive I suppose.

It stands to reason that a club will suffer financially when it doesn't win premierships. When it doesn't play finals one would expect that financial hit to be more severe. There are plenty examples in recent history of clubs facing severe income decline very quickly; Geelong springs to mind in 2015 and 2016. Brian Cook was very quickly out of the blocks complaining that Geelong was being forced to prop up less wealthy clubs and was suffering during its ground rebuilding phase.
I suspect Collingwood is insulated better than most purely on supporter numbers. When we do well, more people stump up and spend money on membership and merchandise. When we do badly, like the last four years, naturally a certain percentage drops off. Luckily, we have outstanding sponsorship and other revenue raising streams. Could we have done better over recent years? Probably, but nobody is suggesting we have failed financially are they?

Emperor Ed: “In a period where it’s been tough for Pies fans, they have voted with their membership dollars. We want to make sure they get rewarded next year.”

Wonder how the Emperor is planning to reward us next year??

I...

Interesting question. I don't know enough to comment accurately on whether we have failed or not, but as you noted in your post we have an enormous advantage over the other clubs. If our financial ability is on par with all other clubs we would be ahead simply because of our supporter numbers.
