Barely beat a dysfunctional saints,
Fremantles' innaccuracy arguably gave us the win in Perth
and we beat up on a hapless (and hopeless) Port at fortress Kardinia

I dont think we have enough info to tell where this team is at yet
Keep the corks in the champagne for now. The jury is still out

As it is for 16 other teams.

End thread.

Can see the point of the OP, but the counter to that is if we keep grinding out those 50-50 wins, we will be in good shape for a top four spot come September. That's what good teams do. We've had the wood on Sydney for the past few years, but can not afford to underestimate them. They will be tough and we haven't beaten them at the SCG in a long time. Should be a very tight, close encounter. Massive, massive game.

The jury is still out, but as the weeks go by I am liking more and more how we are looking.

The new defensive structure seems to be finding its feet, especially around our HF, there were times that port couldnt get it near the middle of the ground coming out of their back 50.
Plus the fact that Scotty is starting to experiment with players in different positions so as we have a plan a b c d e and f if things turn pear shaped in big games - something we have not had under Thompson and were sorely lacking come finals time last season.

Not only that, but the boys look a hell of a lot fitter than they did last year.
Look at blokes like Johnson, Ottens, Corey and Lingy - they are looking fitter than they ever have, and even Bartel seems to have picked up a bit more leg speed which is never a bad thing.

Sure, we cant get ahead of ourselves, but things are looking a fair bit better than we all would have hoped given how last year ended.....

End thread.

Yeah I agree :thumbsu: It is still early days to see how the team will really go. But every year it is the same. It seems that people try and decide on the fate of any team for the season in 2-3 rounds. When in all reality come round 20 most of us would have forgotten what happened in round 3 anyway and the early season results become irrelevant.

Sure there are some teams that stick out like GC, Port, Pies as far as their season may go. But we are in a marathon not a sprint and like all marathons the winners stick with the pack for most of it and then make their move in that last 5kms. So the first 3kms doesn't mean a thing.

The only important thing to do at this time of year is to get the 4 points and as far as that is concerned we are doing OK for now.

Not too early to be 3-0.

Exactly. Would much rather be 3-0 with a percentage of 154.2% than 0-2-1 with a percentage of 81% at this time of year.

Love to have these wins in the bag when it comes closer to finals for positions, venues etc. Might not be 100% convincing but wins are wins.

Screw that! Ive never been a believer in the Lid and I am not about to start now. What does it matter if we rave on about how awesome our team are? We arent the ones out there playing.

The Cats are sitting on 3 - 0 when the footy world had all but given up on them. We have some amazing youngsters running around. Bartel, Corey, Kelly, Ling are close to or at career best form. No way am I going to hold back. I had absolutely no expectations for the Cats this year, and am going to enjoy every second of the ride without worrying about opposition supporters thinking we're getting "ahead of ourselves."

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

Don't you know that opposition players read posts like this and as a result try harder against us. ;)

I'm with you, enjoy the success and if it lands us another flag then so be it. What use is winning if you're not going to enjoy it????

I've got the lid on!!
Good policy to have...

But as for our wins, don't take anything away from them - the very nature of our win had a lot to do with St Kilda's downfall the last couple of weeks, and beating Freo in Perth is always a tough task (we couldn't do it last year). Enough of that inaccuracy crap too, every time we needed to kick a goal in that game we did - if Freo had gotten close we'd have burst away again. We were firmly in control.

So CF, do you do a bit of marathoning? Ballarat is a great spot for training, the Lake, the forest?? Moneghetti territory

As long as that "thrillhouse" thread doesn't come up again this year than we are keeping it on a leash...

I think it was "I'm calling it early.. cats 2010 Premiership" In like may or something... Can't quite remember..

The only high pressure game the Saints have put up. Collapsed in a hole after we played them

We missed easy shots too. Geelong controlled nearly all the last quarter against Fremantle. Fremantle were touted as the next big thing before we hit them. Nevermind.

We beat PA by more than the Magpies did. It was a training run.

We are still up there.

It's round 3, of course it's too early. But we've seen some fair dinkum signs from both our older blokes and the younger kids.

  • Otto has been in sparkling form, no injury concerns yet
  • Pretty much all of our midfield look fit, tough and still have no problems getting it in contested situations
  • our backline has been all but impenetrable
  • Our kids have been sensational and are actually good, solid minutes in the seniors in tough, close games
Things are looking up for us, at least in the sense of remaining a very solid and formidable top four proposition.

yeah um, i'm just taking it week by week you know. it has been some tough wins over some tough opposition so you know um, that's good but there is a long way to go

Collingwood didnt start convincingly last year either, whereas we did - look where it ended up!!

Its not the fastest one out of the blocks that always gets the prize!!

obviously the next two weeks will tell a lot. But remember a lot of people here had us at 1 - 4 after 5 rounds, and that won't happen. I think all 3 wins have been good wins in there own right, and good to see us back to completely burying a team.

so yeah, it's too early. But is it too early to write off the saints year as many are doing (me included)

Yeah but if the 'aints dont win the next few games then they can all but kiss any finals hopes goodbye. You gotta be top 4 to have a shot now days and playing catchup footy all year isnt good for finals prep.
