IMO the report on Stokes was ridiculous, like the standard of umpiring all game.

However, give it up. Brisbane is a good side, they showed it today.

Obviously you weren't at the game. The umpires were schisenhousen all game, and not just the field umpires. The boundary umpire on the Brownlow Stand side was in on the act too. There was one ball that was marked 1 metre over the line right in front of the boundary umpire and he did nothing.

I don't mind the umpires paying free kicks if they're going to pay the same ones all game. Unfortunately they don't though, the 50m against Chapman in the opening minutes being a prime example. Was several times a similar infringement could've been paid the other way, but wasn't. I think the inconsistent interpretations are what gets the fans frustrated the most.

I think the bolded section 100% explains the differing opinions. I didnt have 23,000 others influencing each and evry free kick. I alaso got to see replays of the decisions the crowd didnt see.

If anything it makes my opinion more credible having not been at the game.

As for not seeing replays, they do actually have a video screen down there that shows a direct feed of the game, so the crowd would've seen the replays. But what would I know? Hmmm. I think most would agree that the umpiring was fairly poor for botht sides all game. Interpretations were just wrong, so much so that even the commentators were objecting.

i think this is the perfect start.Peopple are saying how we are off the boil,lost the plot,playing like were board,in cruise control and so on and yet were still on top of the ladder.It feels like hawthorn have been so much better than us but we are still above them.We are the best side in the comp by a very long way.

The Stokes report should be withdrawn and the umpire given a talking to.

I saw it live and only once on replay (haven't had a chance to watch the tape of the game yet) on the news, but the umpire was 10m away and directly behind the Brisbane player.

For a striking report you are supposed to know with what he struck the player with (ie. fist or open hand) and also have seen that contact was made.
Given the position the umpire was in, there was no possible way he could have seen either of those things, thus had absolutely no grounds to make a report and was very clearly just guessing/assuming.

If Stokes were to go from video evidence, then fair enough, but this report was made incorrectly and thus should be thrown out.
