A bit of a break down on how the Cats score a majority of their goals. Would we be better off turning it into a more contested game against Collingwood? Our midfield is our greatest strength and attacking from the stoppages might be a better alternative than relying on turnovers in our back half, where the defenders are the key ball users.

Don't think the game plan will change too drastically but could be something for Bomber to consider if things aren't panning out in the first half.

Definately!! Cats have been down on hard ball gets lately and we need them to beat the Pies. If we can equal them in contested posessions we will win.

If we win the clearances, it will result in pinpoint passes inside our 50 with not a lot the Pies rebounding defenders can do about it. If we don't control the middle, it will be a struggle to win. No doubt about it, that's where it will be won and lost.

I think firstly it's the contested ball and getting numbers to the packs

After that clean skills and catching are crucial so we don't turn it over and play into their counter-attack game plan

Provided that Hawkins rucks well enough to get the ball to our players from the stoppages, this might be a good game plan. As someone commented in another thread, Bomber might go with the quick movement through the corridor strategy that's worked so well for us in the past, but if it isn't working by half time change the game style to try and get more stoppages.

Really, if the guys come out to play hard from the first bounce to the final siren, we'll be hard to beat. Should be a cracker of a game.

I guess at least with Hawkins in the ruck contests too, it gives us another player at the stoppages that doesnt mind getting down and getting his hands dirty if he has to.
Its a plus because he is more nimble than an out and out giant ruckman.

Better than blake who taps the ball then stands back like a little pansy not wanting to get his blouse creased.....

Stoppages are key along with kicking the ball to advantage more and clearing the numbers they like to get to the contest . In our past two loses to Collingwood, our kick to handball ratio has been 0.98 and 0.90 as opposed to 1.18 and 1.28 when we have won.

the stoppages are one thing l hope the cats can even money at them.the other key is running to ball out of defense the pies will kick a lot of points. need to run the pill out and get some nice kicks into the F50.l was thinking if ling needs a rest put him on Maxwell l hope ottens has a huge game go cats..
