Thats not in the Herald Sun poll I don't think.

Was there a competition once and Chief Dunstall won? Who else past or present is right up there?

I haven't seen anyone as overall well built as Kouta, ripped as Ben Cousins, or arms bulging like Ablett Snr. Saw an 89 GF replay and he looked about 3 months away from being able to compete in a Mr. Universe bodybuilding contest.

Interesting stuff if they had that competition every year. Unaware of it past or present.

From power to weight ratio i think small man benny mcglynn is right up there, as was/is Stevie Baker.

I also heard Fraser Gehrig smashed all sorts of bench press records at the Saints.

Real strength isn't just what you can bench.. Squatting and Dead lifting are more true signs of overall body strength.

Strength/Power lifting competitions involve Bench, Squat and Dead Lift. For key position players, upper body strength is more important than the smaller players.. but in terms of strength that's most usable in AFL, strength below the waist is far more important.

I can tell you that AFL players would spend far more time dead lifting and squatting than bench press/arm exercises. The pretty boys or ones more concerned about their looks are likely to hit the arms harder... it's usefulness is negligible.

Look at players such as Paul Chapman, Gary Ablett Jnr and Joel Selwood. Very, very thick through the core. Result? It usually takes 2 players to get them off of their feet. A big upper body won't assist in that. I think Chapman is pound for pound the strongest in the league... his stability is unbelievable, so is his thigh/glute size. The bad? Loss of speed. These 3 I've spoken of aren't the quickest... although Ablett/Judd(freaks) are 2 guys who are both incredibly strong on their feet and quick.

Surprisingly though they all look a lot smaller in real life! Saw Kouta out once (in his prime) looked a lot skinnier but very lean!!

Saw that Ian Roberts at work once...he is a giant!!

For the highest Power to Fear Ratio it would have to be Lockett for pure brute strength..

Being told by your coach that you had to fill the hole in front of Plugga must have been an awkward moment.

That would have been about the point i got a lot of tightness in my hamstring i'd think.

Pretty sure Fraser Gehrig bench pressed 6x172.5kg

Heard Steven King say he squatted 2x200 coming back from a knee injury so there are probably some decent squatters out there as well.

hams to calves or half squats?

the biggest and strongest guy I know can full squat 160 x 4

Tony Modra used to go all right heard a story of someone breaking his deadlift record at the Crows without warming up he went in and busted it by 50kgs like it was nothing

Interesting.

Will Genia is reportedly one of the strongest players in the Wallabies team (Rugby) and he benches 172 kg. Most forwards would bench 150 or more.

Several of the England forwards have been reported to bench over 200kg. They are big guys though.

Brent Staker benches more than Jonathon Brown sadly enough. Proves looks can be deceiving

JB is naturally a big body and very powerful lower half.

He might'n care that much about heavy weights, due to injury, especially bench as it takes a lot out of your shoulders.

Cambell Brown looks like he could bench a small vehicle and he'd be mad enough to attempt it.
