I was just remembering the way in which Travis Cloke was throwing defenders around at times this year and was trying to think if there's any other players in the league that would be stronger than him...

Who do you guys think is the strongest player:
a. currently
b. all time

For now I think Cloke is right up there.

For all time it'd have to be Ablett or Carey to me, I'd say Ablett.

I reckon karmicheal Hunt would be pretty strong if a potato stack lifting he-man style competition was held. Alot of those rugby boys can lift some big weights.

Frawley is probably no where near the strongest but he would hold the record amongst the Dee's at the moment.

Barry Hall could probably bench a fair bit.

Travis Cloke  ?
Mate seriously...the ball bounces up for Milne in the square and you'd be slagging him off saying "what we really needed was a genuine CHF" and want him traded.

The bloke plays for the Doggies now, and had an absolutely brilliant and hugely underrated season.

Nothing to do with size or beef. Core strength.

Pound for pound its probably one of the inside midfielders.

All time: Plugger (probably). Even when he was nearing his end he was still swatting off multiple defenders and taking marks that seemed almost uncontested.

Kouta "the man mountain" as well for the way he could crash through packs in the guts.

Currently: Hard to say, but I reckon Jono Brown would have a fair claim. As would Brian Lake.

What does your statement have to do with Travis Cloke actually being one of the strongest players in the league?? It's just one person's opinion and has nothing at all to do with winning or losing GF's.

Many Collingwood posters have seen some of the clubs athletic stats and the strongest player on our list is Dane Swan he can bench around 160kg I think Nathan Brown was second. At a guess I'd have to say that Sandilands is the absolute strongest player in the league, Ablett or Chapman would be the strongest pound for pound.

Runs dead evens with Ben Rutten, just about the only full back who does.

Probably because if the ball bounced for Milne and Collingwood lost, the OP wouldn't be overrating Travis Cloke.

Strongest player right now would have to be Sandilands would it not?

Seen the damage one of his bumps did this year.

Admittedly, I tend to criminally underrate him (Rutten) at times. Should've been one of the first names I mentioned :thumbsu:

Speaking of "interstate monsters", Glen Jakovich out muscling Carey and Lockett on occasions was damn impressive. One of the greatest CHBs of all time. Easily the best CHB I've seen, due to him being able to manhandle just about anyone.

Plugger is the all timer. Never seen another AFl player throw players around like he did...man vs boys.

The strongest today I think it would be someone like Brown or Lake.

Matt Thomas is a monster.

I'd think Hall would have most covered though. Maybe Pavlich, or Brown would be close.

Big with a lot of weight and leverage but I think his actual core strength throgh the torso would be pretty average.

Thats my opinion too. Sure, Sandi is a beast, but if you handicapped or accounted for size and weight i don't think he'd be up there.

But he warrants the mention in this thread for mine.

The bounce of the ball in a drawn GF has no impact whatsoever on whether Cloke is or isn't the strongest player in the league and I doubt sincerely that the OP would have a different view had the ball sat up for Milne...

Cloke took the most contested marks in the competition this year so that does tend to suggest that he is pretty strong in a one on one situation and a handy CHF. Even though he certainly isn't the strongest player in the league.

The held a competition in the early 90's to see who was the strongest in the AFL, and Piggie Dunstall beat Plugger and every other player hands down.

Probably Brown at the moment, bit of a roughie maybe Tippet

Jarrod Molloy was a tank, hard to go against Plugger though for all time

160kg? Proof or I call shenanigans.

While he's no 120 pound weakling, this stat is severely overrated. Many of Travis "contested" marks were one out against the opposition's second or third best defender. If Jono Brown only had to deal with that and not 2 or even 3 defenders hanging off him (quite often illegally) every week, he would have hauled in a lot more "contested" marks than Travis.
