Coach Stuart Dew - Where is the scrutiny?

I don’t like where this is heading for Dew if last Sundays surrender to Essendon is any indication for the year ahead.

Plus I don’t think they have the talent to make the 8 if you look at the selected side each week.
Well they can’t even beat GWS in the preseason like I know it was supposed to be just a “practice match” as such, but if you lose to a GWS side destined to finish in the bottom 4 this year by over 40+ points, there really isn’t any hope for the Suns at all for 2023 and beyond.

Hopefully Witts or Miller don’t go down with long term injuries as well this year, otherwise that club isn’t gonna win another game if those injuries occur.

Clarko was ready and willing to go to the GC and the AFL was ready to sign it off.

Absolutely shocking decision to re sign Dew.

Just remarkable ineptitude.

Goes along with the Greenwood decision.

a missed opportunity and perhaps a sliding doors moment

You can’t build a highly successful team when your top end talent is like consistently leaving the club. You just end up with huge gaps in your list profile and spuds filling the gaps.

It’s the toughest job in the AFL. I think he has done OK with what he has been given.

They just don’t give a **** up there. 29 wins in 5 years is a record that gets anyone at any other club fired, but not Dew.

Massive week for him now against Geelong, simply has to win. I just don’t see it though; an overweight Stuart Dew breaking the hearts of Geelong players and fans? Would never happen.

That’s some seriously poor judgment on the suns board then

I think it starts with their gangster chairman Tony Cochrane, whom whilst I admire his fierce and passion for the club, has let his ego and stubbornness affect the running of the football department.

And almost every other decision too. Gary Ablett co-captain with Jesus Christ his Lord and Saviour was a shocking start and they haven't got a lot better IMO.

at the same time, not even building an honest GOP( hate the term) side and residing in nowhere land would have seen them more successful than they have. Stars leave because the club isn't successful, not because it's on the Gold Coast.

Yes but they’re in a spiral of talent loss. Hard to get out of.

I think clearly he has successfully been able to get youngsters to buy into what he is trying to build.

Players aren’t leaving like they had previously done.

Got to commend him for this.

Decision making seems very questionable though. Baffling team selection on occasions. Inability to acknowledge when he’s wrong or needs to adapt his approach. Early labelling of a player and a focus on what they can’t do rather than what they can do are all things that get raised in our board.

Are in or were in?

I guess it’s going to be a persistent question. We clearly have less margin for error. If we were in hawthorns position I imagine you’d see youngsters abandoning ship at first opportunity like they did in the past,

We were hurt that rankine left but re signing rowell, anderson, king, lukosius, ainsworth, Powell, Miller in the last couple of years has been excellent news.

Brodie and bowes and inevitably sharp will leave but the club clearly hasn’t rated them.

The Darwin connection, the number of good academy prospects coming through are all essential components of developing a stable list core.
