I just had a look at that pic of Dew

Does he have his own postcode?

He's that fat, you need a road map and a waterbag to drive around him

Does he have a licence to drive something that big?

I've driven around smaller roundabouts

He's like the human eclipse

Who ate all the pies?

Are they still building the ice tub to hold him? speaking of which there is a water shortage in case they havent heard.

Just read the paper this morning, Stuart Dew on the backpage, he does look in pretty good nick, good luck to him I say!
All you BF posters bagging the crap out of him, whilst stuffing donuts down your own throats sitting at your keyboard, should think about his efforts and commitment, anyone who makes an effort like that, is alright by me!....:thumbsu:

Great call BigBez. Noone questioned his skills last year just his commitment. It shows now he has that commitment and desire to play at the top level again. At a late 3rd round in a weak draft he may turn out to surprise a number of BF arm chair experts. Not many late 3rd rounders get a game or two in their first year.

What the ****? Who wouldn't rather Tom Williams? Last years rising star nominee who is 197cm and built like he's carved out of stone and has has 10+ years ahead of him holding down a key position.

Compared Stuart Dew who has maximum 2 seasons left in his flabby, lazy aging body.

And Luke Darcy overweight? He struggled to put on weight!

Time to stop smoking crack mate.

Unfortunately todays pic of Dew is not online as far as I can see. It sounds like he is progressing well with his comeback. To lose 20kg is a good effort but it depends what weight he started from. If it's true he got to 120kgs that puts him now at 100 kg which would be 10 to 15 kg overweight. That's a fair bit. IMO the Hawks will get some good match time out of him but should not expect him to be a saviour. If he played out of a forward pocket he'd be a good opportunist that might kick four or five goals from time to time. If the Hawks played him out defence or even in the middle I think they'd have to cover for his lack of pace.

STREAMLINED Hawthorn recruit Stuart Dew admits the Hawks have pursued a high-risk draft strategy, but says he is fit enough to vindicate their bold decision.

A new-look Dew this week spoke for the first time about the controversial decision and revealed it was Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson who planted the seed that led to his AFL return.

While Dew conceded he had been unfit and overweight when drafted in November, he is now in excellent shape, having lost more than 20kg, and is readying himself for a return to footy in the NAB Cup.

He said he was determined to reward the Hawks for their brave decision, and was trim, motivated and hoped to be used as an attacking half-back and goalkicking weapon.

After a monitored fitness program in which the former Port Adelaide star trained for up to five hours a day before Christmas, he has been in full training for a month.

While he's likely to miss a possible second-round NAB Cup match-up against Port Adelaide, the program puts him on track to play in warm-up games before trying to win selection for the season proper.

Dew said that at 28, he still had what it took to make an impact in the Hawthorn side.

"I still back myself. I still back myself to get a game," he said.

"I am always a big fan of telling guys to play to their strengths, and that's what I will be trying to do.

"It's a big risk by Clarko and myself and the footy club, but sometimes you have to take a risk to get a high reward, so I am looking forward to that.

"I don't want to waste my time or anyone's time to come over and not perform. It's a good challenge, to fit into a new group.

"It's a different situation and at the moment it's exciting. I am loving it."

Premiership player Dew retired after 180 games at Port Adelaide following the 2006 season, despite talk he had left the game prematurely.

But Dew believes playing out the last year of his contract would have been cheating the club.

"It just shows the mental state I was in, I was just very stale with footy in general," he said.

"At that stage I didn't intend to play AFL football again. Halfway through (2007) I contemplated playing for Central Districts and that was my aim.

"Mid-August I started training a little bit by myself. (Clarkson) heard I was thinking about playing at Centrals and just gave me a call and threw it out there.

"His advice was that if you are going to play, maybe think about having another crack in the AFL. I went away and spoke to a few people, and thought, 'Why not?"'

Dew says his fitness goals are related to fitness, not weight, but after ballooning to a reported 120kg, it is believed he has lost more than 20kg....

Im not comparing them as players, but hed still be quicker than Greg Williams used to be!

Stuart Dew chose a good time to stand out of football, saving himself the embarrassment of having to be part of the Port Adelaide Grand Final side in 2007.

And then he showed great foresight to choose the Hawks instead of the Power. I guess he must have felt disillusioned with the Port Adelaide team (and possibly the coach) during his time there.

Fair point, but the point I was trying to make, if you can play football as well as Dew, youll do a lot better, than most 18yr old 3rd round draft picks!

P.S, Williams had lightning hands, and a football brain that compensated for his pace!

I read/heard somewhere last week that the Hawks picked him up primarily for his kick-out abilities. And fair enough I guess. Only .... I don't suppose anyone (Toots??) has vision of That kickout against Brisbane a few years ago? Would put the Fear O'God into Hawthorn!
