Hard to disagree with chef's point -to have five strikers on the books (with two on big wages), why would Liverpool bring in more/someone else on large wages?

Unless Lambert is sold and Origi is sent out on loan again, but even then, it would make the signing of Ings a bit silly if a bigger name was brought in. Thus leaving Balotelli earning a bucketload and not playing.

I'm excited to see how Jerome Sinclair (from the Academy) does next season.

Could be given a few games if we are light on strikers, I think he has some decent potential.

balo will go onoan to sampdoria i think we will bring in benteke or a dzenko type we wlnt remain with just those strikers you mentioned.

On the contrary, it's the 1 area of the field that we absolutely will be active in. There are numerous quotes from Rodgers over the last few months indicating his desire to "add goals" to the side and that this is a position he'd be looking to strengthen this summer.

Borini will be sold, it looks as though he's off to Lazio. Ings takes his spot and will probably play cup games.

Balotelli won't play regardless of whether we sign a new striker or not, that much is clear. Even as it stands, Sturridge missed nearly the entire season and we barely used Mario (1500 minutes or the equivalent of 16/56 full games in all comps for the entire season, most of them coming in August-October), while in the 2nd half of the season he was behind Lambert and midfielders Sterling, Lallana & Coutinho in the pecking order for the #9 role. It's pretty clear what the club's position is on him.

No-one wins if he stays at Anfield - least of all the player himself. He knows that his chances of playing in a European Championship with Italy next summer are next to nil if he stays with Liverpool next season. He's already out of the national side, and despite posturing in the media from he and his agent that he's going to stay at Liverpool & fight for his place, there's absolutely no chance that he will risk that.

It might mean that he goes on loan initially or that we take a hit on his transfer fee (though an offer of £10m would allow us to break even on his amortized fee for accounting purposes). Inevitably Mario will accept a move not because we have any power to force him out, but because it's in his best interests to do so, plain & simple.

That leaves us with Sturridge (top class but pre-emptively pencilled in as injured), Ings & Lambert. I see no reason why we would be persistently linked by reputable sources to every striker under the sun if we weren't intent on adding to that.

I remember the "If any manager can turn Balotelli around it's Rodgers" quotes from some of the pool supporters despite some of the best failing.

Rodgers was against it and even ruled it out a few weeks before it happened.

Fair enough, I just don't see it happening thats all. I think you'll go into season 2015/16 with Sturridge, Lambert, Ings and Mario. Anything more than 4 strikers is just overkill.

What happens with Origi, is he staying with the squad?

Plus I can't see Ings choosing to go to Pool if he's only going to be used in cup games, he must be in Rodgers first team plans and have assurances about this or its's a silly move from Ings and Liverpool.

The way I see it is the board overruled his decision, made the 16mil bid and after they knew they ****ed up, They decided Rodgers could not spend anything during the Jan window. I think we brought Ibe back from loan but that was it.

He wanted Remy but wasn't willing to take the risk of getting him due to his medical condition. Seems fine at Chelsea though.

Yeah, I really don't believe that myself(I think there's more to it). Plenty of specialist at other clubs have all said he's fine.

oh well rodgera is as of today fully in charge of transfers no excuses for him anymore.

Definitely a very high risk/high reward type signing though for £16m there were many saying his raw talent made it a risk worth taking, and that for the most part he'd cut out the off field bollocks and had performed quite well since joining Milan. It was just the racism issues that continued to plague him but that's hardly his fault.

That wasn't what bothered me though, what irritated me was that here we have a system and a playing group designed to press the ball aggressively and attack on the break with speed & precision. At his best Balotelli has many qualities as a player, but anyone with even half a clue about football could see he fit none of those criteria and if Sturridge went down injured for long periods he wasn't going to put in the required work rate and we were going to struggle to adapt to playing regularly with someone as laconic as Mario as the tip of the spear, which is an indictment on the transfer committee.

I'd hope that that's a lesson learned and we won't be making the same mistakes again this summer but I guess we'll see. What is certain though is that Ings won't be our only attacking signing this summer.

I would have taken the risk. Cant blame Liverpool that Balotelli is destined to waste his talents.
 
Thing with Mario, the talent is there which means against their better judgement someone will probably always take him, I don't expect to get the whole 16m back or perhaps not even sell but I don't doubt someone else will be willing to at least pay his wages this season, I'd prefer to sell now but could live with a loan to buy to an Italian club.
