Ok, so he'll be an improvement on what Arsenal have, and will come relatively cheaply. Not exactly being mugged off then are they?

Who said they are being "mugged off"?

As I said, I think he is an upgrade - I suppose I just disagree with others, for the reasons I've already given, as to how big an upgrade.

Wealstone Raider. Since you agreed with him I assumed it was your view too. If not fair enough but he's still wrong all on his own. :P

He said that he thought that Cech was "finished".

I said that I wouldn't quite go that far, but that I do think that there are reasons for doubt as to whether he will return as the keeper that he was, and that I find it odd that everyone simply assumes that that will be the case.

i guess it's because of his reputation (hardest trainer, first to arrive, last to leave, etc) and the fact that he wasn't injured, he just wasn't playing. He might have lost a bit, but he'll still be a damn fine keeper.

Don't think he becomes a Tottenham legend unless he wins something. He's a great goalkeeper but is that enough to give you legend status at a club?
That's how easy it is to become a legend at Spurs.

Cech is finished - Chelsea mugging off Arsenal as usual

He's 33 as of last month... that is barely even "mid-30s" if at all.

Fine, early to mid-30s. Either way, clearly closer to the end of his career than the start and the age at which most players begin (or are already) slowing down, and that's without virtually a season out of the game in which they are at least maintaining rhythm and continuity.

True but players like VDS and Buffon are the exception, not the rule.

And Schwarzer, and David James, and.... most keepers play until 40/41.

Can't believe someone said Cech is finished! He was excellent for us when Courtois was unavailable plus he would be an upgrade on Ospina/Szczesny so he would be a great get for them. If he does go then you would have to think one of Ospina or Szczesny will seek opportunities elsewhere. Heard that a Turkish club (Fenerbahce?) are after Ospina.

You have to win something to become a legend of a club? Yeah, na.

Tim Howard - 36 still playing
David James - 39 at Portsmouth
David Seaman - 38 when he left Arsenal - 40 At Man City
Mark Schwarzer - 41 at Chelsea
Brad Friedel - 43

And they are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head....
