have any of you guys seen much of rondon any good?

Just sored in the Copa America last week I think?

Hard to tell as the Russian league is a bit iffy but has played well and scored a fair bit.

Had a decent record in Spain playing for an almost relegated Malaga team.

Zenit paid £16 million for him so will be looking for at least that back.

No mate, not one season. Player x would have to put together a decent career at the club too.
Duncan Ferguson is an example from the years when Everton were on the verge of relegation every season.
Matt Le Tiss has been mentioned. Juninho from Boro. Jay Jay Okocha. That's off the top of my head but they're plenty of others.

I meant in the way in regards to, well, if it was a rarer occasion, like if you're one of the bigger clubs, or have been in the division for a very long time. For Leicester, that's not really something I could attribute to.

Dang, good call on Le Tissier. There's no question there on his legend status. I almost forgot just how annoynomus Southampton was in the 90s. Either midtable or fighting off relegation. He probably would've been a legend even without it, but yeah, there were times where he was a very big say on Southampon staying up. For me, he comes under the Shearer category, (I would probably through in Tim Cahill) in doing a lot for the club without accomplishing anything.

Juninho... that's a cult figure there. But first ever league cup, that alone is big enough.

Ferguson I suppose would be fair, but he's got an FA cup there. I know what you mean, Everton were on the verge of relegation, quite amazing to think what the story was a decade ago. Everton's history also suggests that this is significant. I know Fergerson was great for the club... but I'd almost say Cottee would be the name. He was the one that really saved Everton, and he had a decent career. He'd be up there, but I don't quite know about legend status.

Jay Jay Okocha... yeah, alright, I'll pay that one. Saved them twice, which resulted in their first European Campaign (While notable, considering its history and given context, not quite as impressive) as the captain. Yeah, his legend status is more due to him saving the club and then taking it somewhere. Although doesn't he have a sour relationship with them now? No matter, I'll pay that.

Some good stuff there.

Nope, wouldn't have either of them as legends of the club.

The guys (not all) that won a couple of League Cup's are closer to legends.

Cambiasso and Vardy have been great players for us but you don't become legends easily.
I guess Johan Cruyff is not a Dutch legend either then.

Ya know, considering he won nothing with the NT.

Carvalho is a transfer rumour champion! Always gets a run.

Rumours seem to be very much in the fantasy mode at the moment, hopefully something more concrete arrives soon.

If I was to name one guy I want it'd be De Bruyne....even if his position is not of massive need...

Sunderland getting linked with Stewart Downing now.

We'd probably want at least $5M for him, he's on $50K a week as well, so not sure if Sunderland would pay him that either.

Interesting to see what happens with him if we get Payet though, similar sorts of players.

Who said you had to win something to be a club legend - let me guess Cruyff...

What I said was Lloris would become a ledge if he turned down Man Utd to stay with us. Obviously that would be reliant on him staying four or five more years putting in top performances, but it would be looked upon as a massive sign of love and respect for the club if he did.

Gazza is a Spurs legend despite only playing 3 seasons with us, where as Bale who had six is not. There is no real formula in becoming a legend. Even some less gifted players can become one - Steffen Freund for example. A connection with the fans is the most important criteria

i reckon he's overrated. Jod would hate him too.
Hahah.... overrated would be the word I would use too. Turns 29 in 3 months time.

So we are going to spunk 20-25 million on a 29 year old who has had two decent season for Sevilla. That's it. His age and ability to adapt to the Premier League would be two huge concerns.

Re-sale value is a thing. If Bacca doesnt work. 12 months later we would be taking a huge hit on him. We could gamble on another player for 20 million but a much younger player and then still have re-sale value if it doesnt work out.

Actually Bale probably a ledge just for what he did to Maicon that night. He kind of lost a lot of love for the way he conducted himself during the move to Madrid. Not as bad as Modric's though, who in turn was an angel compared to Berbatov, who is hated now

But it's not all about re-sale value. That is one of the problems with our owners.

If a 28/29-year-old comes in and gives us three very good seasons, then who cares if we take a hit on him in a few years' time? We don't sign enough players who can make an IMMEDIATE impact.

I'd rather us take a risk and it not work out than continue to plod along with "safe" players who aren't up to it anyway.

I don't know enough about Bacca to give an informed opinion about whether or not he would be a good signing, but from the little I've seen he looks OK. But we should never be scared of signing a 28/29-year-old just because their resale value won't be great.

If you're worried too much about resale value you musnt have too much confidence in the player you're signing.

OK you'd rather get a young player whose legs arent going to go in a few years.

But somwhere along the line peoples priorities have changed from winning football games to winning accounting games.

Exactly. Unfortunately a lot of Liverpool fans have been "FSGed".

Aggressive little sh*t, solid, quick, good finisher, links up well. For want of a better word he would definitely put a bit of bite back into our forward line. One of a handful of forwards I'd be happy with us looking at.
