I'm taking this with a pinch of salt, but Phil Thompson (played 477 games for Liverpool between 1971-1984, came back as assistant manager for several years under Houllier) has just said on radio that he's been told by journalists with contacts at the club that a deal to take Alexis Sanchez to Liverpool is almost complete.

We've definitely been looking at him so it wouldn't be a total surprise if Thommo's on the money here, and he was the first to call the Jose Enrique deal (several weeks in advance) so he has form. Still, it would obviously be amazing if we could pull this off.

I've heard that Juve were interested but weren't willing/capable of matching the wages we were offering.

Honestly I'd be amazed if he left Barça but then I didn't think Fabregas was a snowballs chance of leaving either.

Yeah that's one of the reasons I can see why he'd go to us, if we offer more cash

Also he'd be a certain starter for us, which he wasn't for Barca, not sure if he would be at Juve

But going back to his old league, probably winning titles for sure, it's a bigger draw if he isn't a moneygrabber

Find it very hard to believe that is the case with Sanchez still in the world cup, surely he would tell his agent to wait till after Chile are done?

I don't think so, it will get done. There's a few deals between the clubs which is complicating things.
