Barcelona hope to sign Suarez for 40 million quid and they now believe they have the upper hand in the deal. Suarez's lawyers have apparently flown to Spain to agree to personal terms. [metro]

I highly doubt he will leave Pool for 40 million, that is just robbery. He appears gone though.

I've love to see jod23's face if it happened though.

metro? haha

£60m is max price, Liverpool won't get anymore than that.

£25m + Sanchez is certainly a realistic and good deal, if Liverpool get offered that, take it and run.

You get Sanchez and £25m to spend on another quality player, plus the cash you already plan on spending, and in the process get rid of a dirty rathead donkey looking idiot.

Just so you know I'm generating discussion and not stating anything as fact, nor to what I believe. Don't worry I'm sure you'll get more than 40 mill ;)

i wouldnt take that i doubt lfc would.
similar argument last season take 40m and run

still not convinced he will leave. but f he does it would be around the 80m value
I will be surprised if you get 80 million for him. My guess is around the 60 million mark but they will send Sanchez (worth 40 mill) your way. So Sanchez plus 20 odd million would be adequate.

As stated earlier, no one will pay that. If that's what Liverpool hold out for, enjoy having him miss a quarter of the season at Liverpool.

Do people still not realize that players get a choice in where they go?

Sanchez might not want to leave Barcelona? Might not want to leave Spain?

Might not even want to play for ****ing Liverpool.

Shaw has passed his medical, expected to be announced as a united player soon.

We went through exactly the same thing last summer when he was serving his ban for biting Ivanovic and all of a sudden people assumed that meant we would be desperate to sell him at a fraction of his actual value. We weren't then and (according to this article by the reliable James Pearce) we aren't now, which is the smart thing to do. The reason Suarez is worth what he is, is because he is 1 of 6 or 7 players in the world capable of scoring a goal per game in a top league, and 1 of 3 or 4 who are realistically attainable (ie not Messi or Ronaldo). If there were more players like Suarez then no-one would waste their time trying to buy him because of all the bullshit that comes with him. The fact is he remains an extremely rare commodity regardless of his penchant for giving love bites.

He's consistently had these problems for his entire career and he's obviously never going to change. So, if another club wants to buy him then they have to accept that he comes with baggage, if they don't accept that baggage then the solution is quite simple, save your money and buy a different striker who scores less goals because he's obviously not the right player for you. He has 5 years remaining on his contract so LFC are in no rush if the right offer doesn't come in. It's like a tyre kicker coming and trying to knock the price down on a 2nd hand car that you didn't want to sell anyway over a few scratches.

Suarez apparently has a release clause in the region of £80-100m, if a club isn't willing to pay that figure (or an equivalent combination of players + cash) then Liverpool aren't going to sell him on the cheap. Particularly to mega rich clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona! LFC don't owe them any favours, nor do they owe Suarez. We don't need the money, so unless his release clause (or an equivalent offer) is met then I expect he'll be back playing by the start of November, complete the remaining 30 games of the PL season probably scoring 30 goals in the process, and we'll no doubt go through this whole rigmarole again next summer.

We will still probably get more out of Suarez for 3/4 a season than 99% of other players for a whole season.

I hope we get rid of him I'm just sick of the distractions. At the same time no point taking a big hit just to do it. All the people rabbling now thought he was a campaigner 12 months ago so in a brand sense it's probably not much of a further hit. People won't pay what we like but I would take the risk of holding him for anything less than 55m cash or Sanchez plus 20ish.

Good post as usual.

World class players are hard to come by so when you do get one, you don't just give them away. I'm sure the club will take this into account. If he has a buyout clause and Barca/Real decide to match it, then fair enough, but I'd be extremely disappointed if we bowed to the pressure and let him go on the cheap because of this latest incident.
