We went through exactly the same thing last summer when he was serving his ban for biting Ivanovic and all of a sudden people assumed that meant we would be desperate to sell him at a fraction of his actual value. We weren't then and (according to this article by the reliable James Pearce) we aren't now, which is the smart thing to do.
That ban was 5 epl games though, this is 9 and your first 3 champions league games. His ban could decide your fate in both competitions, and similarly any team he is transferred to. Much bigger deal than last season.

What was the fee in the end?

Believed to be around £30m. The exact figure is still not known, I'd say it's more than £30m. A massive fee for a 18- year old but if he gives us 10+ years of great service then it'll turn out to be a great deal at the end of the day.

We will still probably get more out of Suarez for 3/4 a season than 99% of other players for a whole season.

I hope we get rid of him I'm just sick of the distractions. At the same time no point taking a big hit just to do it. All the people rabbling now thought he was a campaigner 12 months ago so in a brand sense it's probably not much of a further hit. People won't pay what we like but I would take the risk of holding him for anything less than 55m cash or Sanchez plus 20ish.
Sanchez plus 20ish is a great deal. Could probably push it to 25 mil.

Kudos for being able to take your Liverpool glasses off :)

Oh God...

Goal.com reporting that Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of Paul Pogba. How ridiculous.

Great couple of signings for us, even if it is £60m combined. We still need another midfielder, a quality CB and a winger.

Hopefully we get Strootman in January though.

some people on here are so clueless when it comes to the suarez situation and its the same people that talked the same crap this time last year.

fsg will not sell for under 80m even if suarez bites someones head off

id take 40 but fsg would want more

If barca is stupid enough to still pay 40 then yeah sure

But not even they are this stupid

Keep in mind it's one more year of wages in the 200k, not even including what would be pretty damn high goal and appearance bonuses and all that shit. If we sell him now close to 65 mil, it would be the same as if we sell him next season for 80. Not to mention he isn't even gonna play 1/3 of the season

Real smashed the record for Zidane at 29-30

Sell on value means nothing to those crazy Spanish clubs

But I don't think anyone sane's ever gonna pay 80 mil for him unless they are completely crazy, which is why I hold hope in Barca or Real

Luis Enrique sounds like he's still very keen, okay let's do it, Luis

They sure overrate their young English players. Shaw for 30 mil. Could of got Rodriguez for probably half that fee.

Certainly not after this world cup. Still I reckon he'd be a cheaper (and superior) option. Even Blind would be a handy option if VG wants his Dutchies. Not like United need to be prude with their spending anyway. Good luck to him.

They'd cost around the same, Wolfsburg, unlike Soton, doesn't even need to sell, Soton needs to service their debt, Wolfsburg is owned by rich blokes. They would ask for near 30 mil as well

30m for 10 years

That's assuming he continues to develop. Best way to approach these deals is to offer an add ons based fee. Once Shaw plays x amount of games, Soton receive another 3 milion pounds etc etc. Never a good idea to pay it in one hit unconditionally.

Honestly this is one deal I'm fine with.
