Chelsea could just sell Lukaku and buy him back if he ever develops into a world-class striker. Similar to what happened with Matic. It might not be best business practice but with Chelsea's bottomless pit of money it's no big deal.

It could end up like a Pogba situation where the player never wants to return.

When was the last time we actually signed a big name player? I honestly couldnt tell you. Under Rafa, all his best buys were more obscure. Mascherano was highly rated I guess but everybody seemed to be wary of him because he was not even getting a game at West Ham. Alonso was plying his trade at Real Sociedad, he wasnt touted as a major signing even though he did turn out to be one.

Torres was rated high I guess, but when we bought him, I didnt think every club under the sun was jealous. We werent fighting off Barca, Madrid, United etc for his signature. He turned into the best striker on the planet for about 2 years though.

Ummm... Suarez wasnt really sought after. Just another good player padding his stats in the poor Dutch league. Of course he turned into a superstar.

We really dont tend to go for the big name signings, like Chelsea or United do. Or now City and even lately Arsenal. We tend to go the more obscure route and then turn them into stars. So I think if you are waiting for us to sign somebody like Reus, you might be waiting a long time.
Regarding Reus, the thing I'd like to know is well why not? I understand through most of the other years we haven't had United/Chelsea money so we bought youth and developed them but this year we can afford Reus, who is a proven jet, so why not attempt to sign him? He is only 25 so he isn't breaking the age barrier, and we know he is good so why not? If we can afford too then we should go for it.

Mourinho's judgement has slipped big time. Last year he offloaded De Bruyne and Mata while bringing in the hapless Willian. Lukaku could have been a good option for him too. Losing Mata's creativity hurt them when they dropped points to teams down near the bottom of the table.

Hapless? Haha, what?

Did you watch any Chelsea games at all? Willian was fantastic. He was crucial in assisting Matic and Luiz in the game against City at Etihad. His defensive work rate is outstanding, and his pace is fantastic on the counter. De Bruyne was terrible and reportedly not training well. Mata looked well off when he did play and a move worked for both parties. Yes there was times that Mata would've been useful, but thems the breaks. Lukaku demanded a loan or he'd hand in a transfer request.

Calling him "hapless" was harsh .A more accurate term would be average. Nice for a counter attacking scheme ,bit overall I dont rate him.
Should have given De Bruyne more chances .

Chelsea came home empty handed at the end of the season. I think Mata would have made the difference in the league .

If Willian was average then De Bruyne was disgracefully bad.

Heard he was going out on a season loan I believe. Magath really isn't a fan haha.

More idiocy. Why let a manager blow a heap on a player just to sack him a few days later.

Magath wasn't the manager when he was signed.

big willy will make many more appearances than pants. pelle's a big fan and you get the impression he isn't completely sold on hartdog
If Hart gets dropped then you won't have a single English player in your starting XI!

i have no emotion towards where the players are from.

all that matters is if they're talented. im interested in the development of english youth players but if they're not good enough, there's no point in pretending so. most english players are either unobtainable for us realistically or just not good enough to play for a top side.

until the fa and grass roots realise this then england will continue to be let down.

On a similar note. Great article going around about Germany wanting revenge on the 2002 final loss and a couple earlier poor performances. The Germans and their FA had the balls to tell the clubs that they needed a revamp in order to get the country back up there and since then they've been a force again. The English FA won't have the guts to make a change and will stick with the (pre)historic methods of mediocrity that is going on in the loan/youth system in the country.

That's my point. Meulensteen was allowed to sign him and was sacked days later.
