Re: Hummels and Vidal. For me they are the sort of players United will be able to sign if they make it back into the Champions League this season. There's still a bit of an unknown factor to United at the moment (as there was last off-season under Moyes) in terms of how they'll bounce back post-Ferguson. And for players in the class of those 2 (who are at the peak of their powers at present and not wanting for playing time like Mata), I can't see them wanting to take the risk of signing for a club that may or may not be able to offer them Champions League football in the next 2 years.

I look at United's squad and while they've already addressed a few needs by bringing in 2 good players in Shaw and Herrera, there's still a hell of a lot of work to do and money to be spent. They probably need another CM, 2 top class CB's to replace Vidic and Ferdinand, and another attacker to replace Van Persie who we've seen the best of in my opinion.

Including what they've already spent that could easily end up costing £150-200m with the way the market is at the moment. That is an absolutely enormous outlay and even if they get it done this window, that's potentially 5 players who need to be bedded into the first team which obviously takes time. I have no doubt that United will be back competing at the top of the league soon, but short of enticing all of these guys with long term £300k/week contracts (which would be a terrible financial decision for a club in £600-700m of debt), I can't see it happening just yet.

Care to name even one united supporter on here that has come out of the woodwork?

I'm not going to go back through to check that but there's only 2-3 I recall off the top of my head were posting most weeks. Seems to be a Manure posting every second post in this thread, certainly wasn't the case in game threads after November. If a neutral fan differs from that opinion I'm happy to remove this hat from my head and eat it.

Oh ok. Seems plausible I guess.

van Gaal has said that he expects it to take 3 years to rebuild United however with the right signings there is no reason against that we won't compete for a CL spot next season.

Surely all teams want to be.

Not sure about RVP. He could easily get back to his best. If he can stay fit he seems to play at his best under managers he respects and he definately respects LvG. Could get back to his form under SAF.

You really need to, if you wish to learn a lesson from us. In this day with other clubs having a shitload of cash you really can only live off your reputation for a few seasons out of the spotlight. At least you have cash to spend which we didn't when we dropped out of the top 4. Players these days pretty much care about 3 things... their wages, if the clubs in the CL and the city. Granted Manchester is a better city to live in(sorry fellow LFC fans but Liverpool as a city is shite) but it's still not great compared to many others around Europe.

Compete for CL sure, but don't you think challenging for titles is a bit beyond United?

Moyes is responsible for most of last seasons crap.

Players didn't like him.
He wouldn't play youth.
Didn't attack.

LvG loves youth and attacking football and we have some damn good attackers.

EPL yes. I don't think anyone will get close to Chelsea and City.

Still there is the other trophies to play for.

So when you said you would be challenging for titles earlier, you meant the FA Cup and the League Cup?

I see.

Vidal would be a sensational signing for United.

As much as I would love to join the rag session on them, they have a new manager and still have some absolute world class players, they finished top 4 the year before the disaster, there's no reason they can't return there.

Vidal anchoring a midfield behind Mata, RVP and Rooney is nothing to be sneezed at.

They've probably overpaid for Shaw and Herrera, especially the latter imo, who could be a boom and bust type in the EPL, but they've still added quality.

I think Europa could be very interesting in regards to CL with 6 English clubs capable of making top 4. Reckon Spurs and any of the others that fail to make it out of the group stage(in 3rd) will take it very serious with the CL place on offer.

Think we are underestimating how much their dominance in the 90's and early 2000's has in still being able to land top quality. They got VG as manager, have signed Herrara and Shaw and continue to be linked to players like Hummels and Vidal etc.

Absolutely, as much as the pool supporters are dancing on their graves, United can pull world class players with their eyes closed, slight dick envy imo, they are still one of the biggest 5 clubs in the world.

Liverpool in advanced talks with Swansea over Wilfried Bony with player's agent thought to be meeting Liverpool officials.

Is this guy for real? i'm not convinced he is what we need.
Thoughts?

Also why are we so obsessed with Saints and Swansea players?

Bony is in the middle for me. There's better out there but he's also proven in the EPL. I also don't see him in the best XI, in theory in my head you only play Sturridge as a striker but that may not work as well for him as it did with Suarez to take off some pressure. That being said Sturridge was player of the month while Suarez was suspended.

Because you aren't big enough to attract Barcelona players?

We create them. You just buy them out of the trash ;)

I'll see myself out.

Your manager used to manage Swansea maybe?

WTF am I reading.

The clubs with less money are squabbling. Go back to your leather mancliner while you buy up a reserves squad capable of finishing top 4 on it's own.
