I've been thinking about the population question a lot in recent times, in a geopolitical sense. In geopolitics population size matters.

Population size is irrelevant if you have an demographic base that wont find. See ethnicity in the UK armed forces for example. Also denuding the populace of rifles may one day make the policy look rather silly.

I think the latter could be solved by targeting certain countries with a compatible population and forming some kind of immigration express lane for them - the UK, the USA, maybe the Philippines - make it easier for them to apply.
