well i think ive decided on dropping hill for cow, which will get me enough money to upgrade anthony to rich...

only problem is which back rookie do i get for hill. Theres petrenko, cheney and rance to choose from.. im thinking cheney

actually maybe petrenko given he will probably hold his spot with bock out?? any thoughts on which back rookie to go for??

You could remember that it's impossible to get all the cash cows and just focus on getting enough into your side to allow you to do the upgrades you want to do. You have a very limited number of trades, and there's a fair chance you'll run out of them before you run out of cows.

Great help again Baxters... thats what Im trying to get my head around ... rather than this turning into another "who should I get" thread...

Thats the bit that confuses me - is there a guide/thread to working out "how many cows you need to complete your inteded upgrades"... thats what i hoped this thread would focus on... do i need a sure thing cow now, or wont I even get to cash in all the cows I have until Anthony is ready to cash in anyways... I just have to keep trying to figure out how the season of DT trading works so it makes more sense...

Too many variables. How the rookie is scoring, the time which he acquires these scores (3wk rolling average), role changes, round debut, injuries, TOG, if they get dropped, suspension and so on - then you also need to factor in the averages of your midpricers that you intend to upgrade and the averages of the premiums you aim to upgrade to. There are way too many things that could effect your trading plans and rookie price appreciation which makes creating a universal rule impossible - not to mention that you have to factor this in for every one of your players. For example, last year Scott Lucas injury - completely out of the blue, completely altered people's trading plans for the rest of the season.

Scott Lucas was the player that set off a string of bad trades on my behalf. With 22 rounds worth of Hindsight, it was easy to see now what would have been a better option.

While I do have a some rough trading concepts that I am attempting to follow, it is still a very fluid concept that can change at the break of the arm, snapped hamstring.....

I also subscibe to the banana bus school of thought which says use 2 trades before rd 3 to get on the guys you might have missed or trade out the duds/injuries to set your season up. Last year i didn't have Palmer from the start and didn't regret trading him in before rd 4.

I'm sure you'll do well if your taking on the advice given by Baxters and the other great DT players. If you can learn from them you'll get better every year. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Very solid point Baxters. Think some people are jumpin the gun on trading looking for these cash cows..

What happened to sitting back and saving them trades up for when they are really needed??

both onfield...

hentschel --> ziebell

hill --> cheney

both have 1 possible backup, but not sold on suban either... and will make alot of money and these to players dont seem as though they are capable atm of scoring... thoughts?

The way I see it, you already have quite a few cash cows in Rich, Otten. Robinson, Ziebell and to a lesser extent Petrenko and Dawson; they will still make you money just not as much as the midfield cows you have. You also have the current luxury of all those players scoring points for you except Anthony, so to me it seems you're already in a pretty good position at the moment.

Thanks buddy...

Beam/Zahakis looks like good cows - very tempting
