Given how bad North have been the last decade, losing to them once is too many. I do feel they play better against us for whatever reason.
The Swans definitely play down to the level of teams.
I remember hearing Paul Roos talk about how different teams put more emphasis on how their opponents play and other some teams just focus on themselves. A good example is the Bulldogs who rarely play based on their opponents and back their system.
I think we seem to be a team who focuses a lot of the opposite team.
Bulldogs seem to smash teams below them but struggle to play against the better teams. Swans and St Kilda are both the kind of teams that tend to focus more on their opponents. They tend to play better against better teams but also play down to lesser teams.
Not sure if that's just coincidence but it wouldn't surprise me if it was something along those lines.

Two very big shining lights for the Swans today. The rest need to pick up the pace a little.

Please don’t waste heeney, we are not playing finals

Probably the best player in the comp imo , can do it all
You'll need to clarify that one Punts. He's there to play and we pay him well for it. He also seems to be fit and enjoying his football right now. So what are we wasting?

Dean Cox deserves credit for some bold magnet moves

Sydney coach Dean Cox came under fire for the failed switch of Tom McCartin from defence to attack early in the season, but the first-year coach is reaping the rewards of gambling on some other magnet moves in 2025. Paul Curtis has been a shining light in another dark year for North Melbourne, but went goalless on Saturday for just the second time this season as Sam Wicks clamped down on him in the Swans' 31-point victory at the SCG. Wicks had previously made his name by bringing intense pressure to the Sydney forward line, but he has now found a more permanent role as a lockdown defender after Cox made the pre-season switch. The 25-year-old's move has been followed by Jake Lloyd making a shift up the field, also with great success, while Braeden Campbell has also impressed this year in a variety of new roles. The McCartin move may not have worked, but Cox deserves credit for freshening up the Swans this season.

I think a decent injury run and some luck and we probably play finals even accounting for the scars of the GF.

Our best football was in the realm of a ~7-8th side imo.

This obsession over the McCartin move is ****ing weird. We had zero tall forwards. We gave a guy who's played forward a run of games in a position we were seriously lacking in. I don't get how this has become a touchstone for some people.
Yep totally agree. He was drafted to the club as a forward so I've never understood the carry on about Big Cox trying him there at the start of the season. Sure it didn't work out, but certainly was worth a try.
At least Coxy realised soon enough and didn't stubbornly persevere with it.

Agree

I didn't like the move, but I got the logic

If Mccartin kicked 40 goals the articles would be about what a genius Cox is.

I'd rather a coach try things

When I retell the 2025 season story I will just tell the grandkids injuries cost us the flag .

I tell my daughter we would have won in 98 if Kelly didn't do his knee

I also like he didnt persist with it for to long soon as he saw Tom value to us is much greater down back.

Trying things is great no issue the critiscim comes with stubbornness or refusal to adapt if it doesnt work

The way they were playing and the fade outs, discipline etc were issues more than who was in what spot .

Mccartin actually did ok forward too

Because we were shit down back & we robbed our backline of a 'seasoned' defender to go forward & score no goals.
Double whammy shit actually!

We were shit in the midfield hurt us mostly

There she is the hater of the swans

That was Campbell Brown praising Heeney's perfect game for two minutes and your takeout is 'she hates the Swans'! She didn't say anything !!
😂 😂

But I also see Campbell Brown put Wicks in his team of the week - good to see Sam gets some recognition. He's made that classic transformation from average forward to quality defender a la Harry, Ted Richards, Reg, etc.

We were shit all over the ground, but on paper we had KPFs, and on the trial games McCartin played well as a forward. When the move didn't work, it was changed.

I'm not sure why you put seasoned in quotation marks. Has someone said that, or?
