When I clicked on OLDDOS.EXE i got:

HELP?!?!?!!?

One of the recent Windows Service Packs has stuffed up the autoexec.nt file. I ended up having to download a new autoexec.nt file and putting it in the system32 folder. Always worth a try but I taker no responsibility!

Anyways, guess what? Deestroy got on my back recently to fix some issues with the game, and amongst some changes and tweaks I actually achieved something that might help new users!

The Path issue at the start is simplified. When you download and run the program, it will now tell you if it thinks you haven't sorted out the path. then it even gives you a navigatable directory listing, to save you having to type in the whole path manually, and it also helps cover the 8.3 short filename format.

Well never mind that, just look forward to some 4.0 patch files being loaded to the site within the next week. If you can't wait that long, PM me an eMail address and I'll send you the patches.

Re getting DOS to work, can't really help you. Get OLDDOS, unzip it into C:\, and if it still doesn't work, go looking for that missing .nt file, the name of which shows up when you try to run it. Google often helps. Then try again.

That's how many interchange players there were back in the early 1990s when I wrote the program. :)

I liked football much better then and am not keen on changing it :P (it'd be a huge job)
 
Ok I now have an (under construction) manual for using Qooty, including some troubleshooting and a getting started section, on the Qooty webpage.

Its pretty early stages at the moment but I'll keep working on it.

Qooty Version 5 released

Hi folks,

I've just uploaded V5.0 to the Qooty site. Hopefully fixed random player names for quick team creation. No longer have to worry about downloading the patches instead of the program, the new version should be able to be unzipped in full over the old and not over-write any of your league data anymore!

I've just uploaded V5.2 to the Qooty site. Best news is that the normal cursor keys should now work, no longer a need to rely upon the numeric keypad! (yay!). More random "Shot At Goal" comments and commentary is now a Setup option (sorry Deestroy, only about 1 year late!).

Enjoy! As always, get in touch if you find any problems. The website now includes a huge list of hopeful future features. There is also a page devoted to what every single file does (nearly complete).

More changes, hopefully all for the better. The commentary file now shows the Version number, far easier to work out whether you're up to date with the latest Qupdates. You can now add comments to your heart's content, where previously there was a 20 comment limit for each category. Also, with any luck, the voting might be a little more on the ball.

I have a really stupid question but how do I make the game give realistic scores. I get it working but the teams score about 20000 goals a game?

And also once a game has completed being simmed how do I get the results like the ones posted on here in the match threads. Not the table just the stuff like "Kahuna splits the middle"

Any help would be awesome.

You must have a fast computer :) Use the Game Pace option to regulate overly prolific scoring.

And also once a game has completed being simmed how do I get the results like the ones posted on here in the match threads. Not the table just the stuff like "Kahuna splits the middle"

Use the Setup screen to turn Commentary file ON. Accept the Setup change (make it a default if you want it to). Then when you run a match, the commentary file will be copied into \YourLeage\Games\ as a ????????.??C file (C as last character of extension). View it with Notepad.

No worries :)

Actually I just noticed my last update includes the commentary viewer too, so for any match for which commentary is saved, go to View and right arrow to 'Games', and the when you choose your league etc you should have the opportunity to press 'C' for the commentary viewer.

ONLY in Version 5.5.

Hopefully you'll like these latest changes! The main theme of this update is to try to get the commentary to be more on the ball, less "charity goals" given to players who don't actually kick them. Well, I live in hope ...

If you don't want to use my commentary files but instead prefer to keep your own, copy your .cmt files somewhere else while unzipping, and then move them back in over the top later. Please note that GoalShot and GoalSho2 are now GoalSho1 (pings from closer in) and GoalSho2 (bombs from further out) where they used to be just two files full of mixed blazes and snaps.

Also there is a new commentary file called HITOUTNO.CMT enabling the possibility of no-one winning the tap from a bounce, so don't just deleted all these and copy yours back in, over-write them if you want to keep your own.
