THE Dockers share more than an ocean with the Indian cricketers, who have proven so invertebrate this summer and who sunk to new jellyfish depths at the WACA Ground on Friday.

As we know, Fremantle and the Indians don't win often when wearing the proverbial white shorts.

As Geoff Lawson, the former Australian opening bowler who coaches Kochi in the Indian Premier League, put it: ''Their away record is not poor. It's horrendous.''

In fact, the comparison is a touch unfair to the Dockers, who have not been terribly successful anywhere.

Over 17 mainly miserable seasons, Freo has won 55 per cent of its games at home and about 26 per cent on the road. The Dockers have had only one winning ''away'' season, in 2004, when then coach Chris Connolly made a concerted effort to turn them into road warriors, only to see them crumble at Subiaco and miss the finals. For a West Australian team in the AFL, four away wins out of 10 is usually enough to play finals.

Utter crud journalism

What a bizarre, random article. Jumps all over the place.

Never really heard of this bloke before. Is he just making his way in Sports Journalism? If so, he just took a significant step backwards. Disjointed, no beginning/middle/end and above all, irrelevant.

A crap article targeting cheap laughs.

But Freo are easy targets we've given unprofessional journo's plenty of ammo over our history. Thats what we need to change - Lyon could be a Freo legend or another false prophet.

The guy is a massive budgies supporter, and evidently a ********.

Didn't we win 4 games away from home last year? And we didn't even play the Suns away.

Would have thought there were other clubs with a much worse away record in the past few years.

Match/Win Percentage away from home state 2009-2011

Whereabouts did you find that?

**** sakes read about a paragraph of that and alt+f4'd my browser

absolutely stupid, poor, inexcusable journalism - no wonder everyone has a go at us for having chips on our shoulders, because 99% of the population believe that drivel :(

seriously though, 2012 ftw :)

Also: our intestate record outside of Victoria was 100%. We won in 3 states away from home, not many teams can boast that fact (in 2011)

When I was at uni if I handed up a journal article such as that my uni lecturer would have marked it as a fail for reporting on a topic and comparing it to a completely irrelevant subject.

Not only is the journalist incompetent and looking at an opportunity to bash Freo, the Sydney Morning Herald is responsible for publishing such garbage.

Check the opening paragraph, poor use of grammar.

I don't understand the point of bringing Fremantle into the dicussion.

1.Its about Cricket, not football
2.Its a Sydney Newspaper, most of their target audience would struggle to know who Fremantle are.

He's a Melbourne based journo for The Age. Just because it got a run in the SMH website means little. It will be in all of Faifax's papers eventually.

Niall is an idiot who constantly snipes at us, both in print and in his stupid webcasts on the Fairfax site.

This. I did a few years of Journalism at Uni; a submission of calibre the likes of this to the Western Independent would've resulted in a very polite "Look, why don't you try again" at best, or a re-assignment of rounds and a quiet word to the offending student's supervising lecturer at worst.

Surprised this one got passed the Subbie's desk.

Fairfax fired most of their subs a few years ago, unfortunately for the discerning, reading public.
