Given the hectic International schedule that will mess with big International signings, I wonder if any teams will go for star Associate players like Kevin O'Brien, Paul Stirling and (obviously, would be the best pick up) Ryan Ten Doeschate.

The only real interesting thing for mine is if they pluck random players out of grade cricket and how they end up going, you'd suspect Sydney Thunder are going to have to.

If I was in charge of a team I'd be going for an even spread and looking at the proven domestic spinners before anything else. Tassie have bossed the one day comp in recent years with Krejza and Doherty and South Australia translated that to T20 last year. Plus guys like Krejza, Doherty and Lyon will come cheap as chips.

So Gayle rejected a 250k offer from the Perth franchise, imagine how much he's getting now? Same team has picked up Warner and you'd imagine he'd be on a fair bit of coin too, so they probably take up 40% of the salary cap. This is bullshit. We've cut our shield players pay and it's going to overhyped, overexposed mercenaries. All we can hope for is that this shit comp will die in the arse and we can see Chris Gayle play for his country again.

could not of said it better myself.:thumbsu:

Heard a whisper that the Melbourne Stars have a super lineup waiting to be announced...fingers crossed the Hurricanes are a star-studded line up as well...

If I had the choice I'd pick the Renegades any day of the week. Guaranteed every home game regardless of the weather and the chance to watch the cricket at a different venue....

Hurricanes FTW tho :)

If I decide to casually follow this competition I will go with the Renegades due to the similar Essendon colours. Plus it is hilarious when the ball hits the Etihad Stadium roof.

Interesting article as well:

SPECULATION is mounting that Tigers captain George Bailey will be part of one of Melbourne's new Big Bash franchises, opening the door for Tim Paine to captain the Hobart Hurricanes.

Chris Gayle and Dave Warner (Sydney Thunder), Simon Katich and Shaun Marsh (Perth Scorchers), and Ryan Harris (Brisbane Heat) signed on for the inaugural eight-team city-based Big Bash League yesterday.

Cricket Tasmania deferred making any announcements for the Hurricanes while it released the Tigers 2011-12 squad.

But rumours abound that Bailey will depart Tasmania for the MCG-based Stars or the Etihad-based Renegades during the December-January tournament, more so for personal reasons with his girlfriend living in Melbourne.

The loss of Bailey would be a blow, but it would give Paine earmarked by national selectors as a potential Australian captain the chance to lead a team in his own right.

Recently departed Tiger Travis Birt, who left Tasmania to accept a two-year offer from Western Australia for the upcoming season, is expected to be one of the Hurricanes first signings, while also rumoured to be in the mix is his new Warrior teammate, exciting young all-rounder Mitch Marsh.

Economical spinner Xavier Doherty, who was upgraded to a Cricket Australia contract just a few weeks ago, is another big name believed to be staying in the state.

However with Marsh being courted and supremely talented James Faulkner also in the picture, runner-up Shield Player of the Year and David Boon medallist Luke Butterworth could be squeezed out.

It is understood Butterworth has received an offer from the Sydney Thunder to join Warner and Gayle but is waiting to see if the Hurricanes want his services.

Each franchise has a maximum of 18 players in its $1 million salary cap, with the Hurricanes hoping to make their squad up of eight locals, eight from interstate and two from overseas.

Announcements on player signings for the Hurricanes are expected as early as today.
