We are now 7/7 and our destiny is in our own hands. I believe one of the biggest areas we need to look at is our intent. Some weeks we are sharp and others not. On the weekend we were terrible for much of the game and when things began to flow played the last quarter the way we should play every week.
I believe that one of the major stimulants to how we ended up playing was Judd. This is obvious but for me it was his 2 last quarter tackles that were the most inspiring. I believe he set the tone for others to dig deep and find intensity and integrity. St.Kilda AND Geelong play with old fashioned honest integrity. They seem to have a passion to do the hard things and place tremendous pressure on their opposition.
On many occassions Carlton and Judd show little passion in putting pressure on their opponents. Against Freo many players just sheparded their opponents when they had the ball instead of really pressuring them. Betts is an example of a player who does continually pressure the opposition and looks like he enjoys being out there. So many other Carlton players have Nick Stevens disease where they are in the zone sometimes but seemingly disinterested other times.
Think in general that Carlton has a higher degree of self absorbed personalities in their side than other teams. As such our players are more likely to be lacking in passion and when this is the case they become undisciplined. Also as part of discipline I think it is relevant to bring up the right foot kicking or lack thereof with Grigg and Austin. Cannot understand how the coaching panel allows a player to not develop both sides of their body.
We have the list to go into the finals and be competitive. However until we find the secret to playing with consistent intensity we are going to keep experiencing some very lack lustre performances.
