Tackling is over rated. I'd rather us sag off our man and work on our zones. You know, hem them in........

don’t more turnovers happen as a direct result of tackles well executed than any other aspect of play?

I was taking the piss.

btw did i even see blocking from us last week? almost ****ing fell out of my seat

Not having Tyrone in the forward line means that we don't simply have a guy pretending to chase....running extremely slowly but shaking side to side in an awful attempt to make it appear that he's working hard. In the AFL tackle numbers are always going to be better when it's 6 v 6 instead of 6 v 5. Simple as that.

Yeah, now we only have the one statue in Griffiths!

looking at that table..

least frees for, 3rd most frees against

lol
The Richmond rule, we rarely receive frees for head high or incorrect disposal whereas the opposition must receive the same frees at a ratio of two to one, it's a little known AFL rule

Last year Richmond barely won a tackle count in any game.
On Thursday night they won it 88 to 67. That's not a win, that's a shellacking.
Under Hardwick, tackling has never (or at least seemed to be) been a priority, much to our detriment.
Has the penny finally dropped? And if so, why now?
Various reports have said we were playing against witches hats on Thursday, but I don't subscribe to that. Carlton actually played a very fast game plan that required tackling.
Our tackling numbers were high throughout JLT , in particular F50 , similar to Thursday night. Most have conveniently chosen to ignore that pattern that I have suggested emerged when the balls came out in January

We laid 87 tackles and got one holding the ball free kick, in the first five minutes of the game. Our opponent got close to 10. Who were we playing, the Bullducks?
Would like a pls explain from league why head high tackles are being neglected that have later drawn attention by Mrp ,,,refer casboult and Ryder

It was actually an embarrassment at how nonexistent it was.
I know it's only round 1, but I hope a MASSIVE emphasis is placed on this from now on.

Couldn't agree more, tug.

I think a lot of people really underestimate how much you can gradually sap the lightning reflexes, run, pace and strength out of quite a number of individuals in an opposition side through sustained quality tackling. Not to mention the psychological edge.

I wouldn't say our effort last week involved enough quality tackling, but at least it's finally getting some of the focus it deserves from the coaching group.

More tackles means we are chasing tail.

That is just rubbish. Who are you Ty Vickery ? More tackles means you are hunting the ball. Lack of tackling pressure has been a massive problem at this club for a generation ! That and being hard at the footy.

Show me a single grand final winning team with a poor tackling attitude !

If you don't win it, win it back !! Geesus.

Yet a bloke at our club proudly declared last year 'we're not a tackling side'.
Nuts hey

Had a quiet chuckle when I heard Dimma in his presser saying something along the lines of it's what the fans wanted - more pressure and tackling - and it what we want.
So the fans are dictating the game plan.
I would have thought without fans, tackling and pressure are paramount in football and non-negotiables.

He Skyped me and that's what I told him, more pressure and more tackling:p
