It is great to see the AFL having a significant impact on sports administration in this country.

Some of you may recall Michael Brown - a CEO of Hawthorn during one of its darkest periods. Michael left the Hawks to head up cricket operations at Cricket Australia - and is hence overseeing coaching, selection, fixturing, game development etc - all of the areas under the most scrutiny right now - and rightly so.

It is interesting that he has seemingly adopted the same philosophies of rewarding incompetence, denial, pandering to egos, encouraging individuality over team, lack of discipline etc that served the Hawks so appallingly during the Schwab experiment.

One would have to wonder about the competence of James Sutherland and the board to appoint a guy as completely hopeless as this bloke. No wonder the cricket team is struggling. I am surprised that he hasnt put Holland, Lekkas, Graham, McCabe et al on his payroll - just to ensure that cricket continues to head in the direction that it currently is...

Interesting point. When a team struggles (whatever the sport, whatever the code), it's easy to point the finger at the coach or the players. But often there are administrators in the back office that are equally accountable (if not MORE so). But as fans, we rarely know who they are and what they do.

Makes you wonder about guys like this and how they manage to move from sport to sport, club to club, walking away from their failures and rarely having any shit stick to them.
