1 bad game out of 8 and everyone jumps off.

Wet, cold weather isnt his type of football.

I agree. Let's not be hasty with him. Some players take time. He's shown he's improved each year. I still think he'll develop into a quality player.

Give the kid a break, it would be so uncomfortable for a player like Tambling of constantly have football observers and supporters to look at everything he does. It's not the kids fault he was chosen ahead of buddy, and i bet there would be another 80 kids in that draft saying thank god it wasn't us in tamblings shoes. Richmond supporters should now realise that buddy might well be the greatest ( i hope dawks supporters don't read this ) but treat tambling and judge him as just another player and not expect him to do things buddy might do. But i don't blame Tambling for inconsistency, i believe the richmond team should look after him more. They need to give him the easy balls and the cheap kicks and possesions just to build his confidence. I believe once he hits the 30 possession mark he will believe in himself and constantly do it from then on.

has definitely been better this season than previously, but i still dont think he'll be the star we all hoped he'd be, looks like developing into a reasonably solid player for us.

and stop making excuses about the conditions, "never played in such cold, never played in the rain" get off it. Dont hide him, hed be the first to put up his hand and say not good enough on the weekend, however he has been pretty good to very good at times in about 5-6 games in all fairness

foley had a 47% EFFICIENCY rate on his disposal last week, out rite pathetic, but i blame the conditions , not foleys ability, same thing goes with tambling

by careers end we will be praising tambl, ings career much more than deledios, mark my words.

tambling is already our best extractor, under every pack, and its guys like him who are making foley look much better.

g. healey won a brownlow thanks to one greg williams!

yes foley wins alot of ball, but alot of tamblings disposals get unnoticed cos he is very quick at releasing the hard ball from under a pack

:thumbsu: Joke of a thread! For those of us watching the games this year, it is obvious Tambling has improved considerably.
Yet the cynics continue to wait in the wings, ready to pounce when he puts in a poor one, as I am willing to acknowledge he did Saturday.
But his first bad one in a long time.
Wake up and smell the roses. Doesn't matter whether you are Richo, Foley, Simmonds or Thursfield, or Jonathon Brown, Franklin, Judd or Pavlich - ALL players are inevitably going to have a bad day! Yet this guy cops it everytime.
I seriopusly question whether there are people on this board who are just waiting for Tambling to stuff up - and the fact he has been good this year hurts them immensely!
Yes Tambling missed a sitter on Saturday at a crucial time....so too did Cotchin. So too has the great Richo many times over the year. Kel Moore did a few weeks ago, so too has Browny. For God's sake, Franklin contributed a woeful 1.7 against us a few weeks back. Scott Welsh kicked 0.5 against us. But you would think Tambling was the only guy this year to have missed a sitter!!!
I just question some people and their motives!

People also forget that tambling has been gett 60-70% gametime and still getting 20 odd possies and usually a goal not to mention quite a few clearances.

When he starts pushing up to 85-95% game time like a Richo, Deledio, Foley or whoever he will get the 25-30 possesions people on here expected him to get from his very first game.

That's a massive call mate, but if you're right we'll all be smiling. I personally think that once he really hits his straps Deledio will be one of the out and out guns of the comp. Tambling? Still potentially a very good player but I can't quite see him ever being involved in a serious 'Who is the best player in the league?' debate. That said, i do think he will be very good. And that's enough.

and btw, tiger fans should not be bagging blingers bec he missed that goal, what he did was electric, yes he missed it , so what next time he wont, but he ran hard and fast to make that play and it was exciting

his efforts were brilliant, he just buggered up the execution, so what , he was not the first and will not be the last

the only thing that deledio has over tambling atm is a more developed body, tambling has many more strings to his bow, ands is not afraid to take every one on with his pace, deledio plays within himself and plays too safe, he plays like he is scared to stuff up.

as soon as tambling has an afl body, within the next 2 yrs, watch out and watch him demolish sides

They are all part of what will be an extrodinary midfield over the next few years, Tambling, Foley, Deledio, the returning Cogs and based on last weekends game Cotchin.

Now that will be the heart of a team with some serious talent

Is it possible that Tambling has an injury?,

He seems to have good speed however he never actually runs hard.

Same with chasing and defensive pressure, Tambling never chases hard, so often I see him make a half hearted attempted then he stops puts his hands on his hips and watches the opposition stream away.

Being that if he was just being slack he would presumably be baked by the coaching staff I can only assume he is injured?.

I like the kid and think he is going to be servicable 200 game player for us but if he isn’t injured he needs to start chasing and putting proper defensive pressure on like the other small Aboriginal players (see the Davey's, Hooper, the Nth Melbourne boys) etc...

If he isn’t injured I’d be telling him to start running his arse off otherwise its back to Coburg till the learns how to run and chase properly.

Mind you I could probably say the same about Deledio buts that’s for a different thread.

i think most of the time its to do with the angle the opponent is running past as its alot harder to chase someone when you're turning than running straight behind them

a bit more sauce mate :p

hes NOT our best extractor and Foley does his own in and under work, pretty clear cut. Tambling does get noticed, sometimes for the wrong reasons, but yeah I'll cut him some slack but hes clearly improved his game.

yep....at the time alot of tiger heads threw their hands up with disgust at the miss. But what they missed is that he made a lightning move to get the give and open up a gilt edged chance for himself, and that against a tight arse cat defence. He is going good. No probs with Bling atm. Most likely to tear the bummers a new one this saturday night too. ;)

Tambling was a wasted high draft pick, but all teams have them. Eg: Mark Bolton. Cotchin has some skill.
if tambling was a wasted pick then 99% of picks are wasted. You can't fill your list with A graders. You need some B and C graders as well. It's how those B and C graders compare with other clubs' B and C graders that eventuall makes you A grade.

It baffles me this myth that Tambling doesn't work hard enough when chasing. He chased Selwood down from 10 meters behind on Saturday. He is a 2nd highest tackler for the season.

Where does this myth come from??

He tackles well around packs but he lets himself down when it opens up, if the opposition player has any sort of forward momentum there's a 95% chance he'll break Tambling's tackle and dart away - you see him half heartedly try to cover the distance to lay a tackle a bit too often atm but he's improving, as witnessed with the Selwwod tackle.

But thats just it, there is an aura that tambling has developed that people jump on him for being lazy. But i can remember a few chase from behind tackles he did last year. Griffen from the bullies was one. He had that great game against Collingwood he did one or two then i think there was a carlton guy and someone from Freo.

He is no less half hearted then anyone else on our list, except foley, and yet he gets all the abuse. When was the last time Deledio ran someone down, or Newman, or King, they barely know what defensive pressure is. Hyde is a tagger yet Im yet to see him lay a decent tackle all season.

Tambling scraps around the clearances makes smothers and usually puts a little pressure on the kick. But geez if he gets a bad angle on tele that shows him running at half pace when it looks like he could make the tackle everybody jumps on his back.

if richie doesnt do somehting soon, he has to go.
i've seen enough of him and am forever waiting for him to put his head over the ball and do something!

I understand what you mean, it just seems like he's in the prime position to chase and lay a tackle more often than anyone else in the team. I for example, constantly notice him in the foreground when an opposition player is bursting towards their forward 50, just sort of half-running after them, maybe he just stands out. Everyone needs to lift their tackling BIGTIME as we're the worst tackling side in the league.
