COLLINGWOOD forward Chris Tarrant has revealed the depths of his despair this year, saying he found out who were his real friends.

Plagued by a knee injury all season, Tarrant managed 17 games in a disappointing year in which the club finished 15th.
He was "embarrassed" to win the club's leading goalkicking award at the Copeland Trophy on Friday night with only 36 goals and has vowed to make amends.

"I think, this year, I've probably learned more than I have in any previous eight years I've been at this football club," Tarrant said.

"I've learned who are my friends and who can sort of just look at you and act like a friend.

"Hopefully, next year I'll get the body right and I can be back to playing with Anthony (Rocca), alongside each other, and hopefully creating that forward line that we all love to see and just having a crack.

"I think with a few guys back . . . the next guy standing up here next year will be a lot more than 36 goals, I can tell you that."

Tarrant said he believed the Magpies had one of the best forward lines in the competition.

article cant be serious. id dismiss it.
"Anthony is getting older and that leg might give him problems. He's pretty predictable and the better side know how to play him. I often get the ball too far from goal and my passing isn't all that good. Buckley isn't what he used to be and will probably play more up forward next year which will kill us because there isn't a better deliverer than him. Our forward line, when we are all fit and on song, is better than it showed this year but whether that means we're finals material is debatable."

That's what he should have said but the sponsors and supporters don't want to read that.

Why do you feel the need to come to the Collingwood board and talk about how we're not as good as we think?

This is the next stage. First people called the injuries excuses. Now that we're looking at a year where we should get a few players back healthy, people are trying to find excuses as to why getting Tarrant, Rocca, Fraser, Shaw and Buckley in the same side for a year won't make us any better.

I don't and it depends on how good you think you are. My post is a response to a post dismissing what Tarrant is supposed to have said out of hand. My assessment of the Collingwood forward line is presented in a balanced way. There's no insult or derision there. I'm here because I'm interested in what Collingwood supporters might say about Cole. A few other threads caught my eye. This is one of them.

because tarrant is too small to play a proper kpp spot, rocca is good, but not great, fraser haha, hes a walking joke, shaw...err...i dont even know how he made it to this list in the first place, runs faster than the road runner then kicks it at right angles, buckley is always good, but he will be playing forward line so i dont see much improvement out of your middle.

First, you're a jackass.

Second, Tarrant too small? 193cm, 94kgs is too small now? Better alert half of the KPs in the AFL then.

Third, Fraser a walking joke? He hasn't been walking for a year now, and that's been the problem, but the real joke is how high and mighty Adelaide fans are considering the gigantic choke job they pulled in the finals.

Fourth, you obviously didn't see Rhyce Shaw this year. If he stayed healthy all season he would've run away with our B&F.

Fifth, you say you don't see much improvement out of our middle, but the discussion is about our forward line. Obviously keeping track of a topic through 5 sentences (not to mention poorly spelled and punctuated ones) is difficult for you.

This can't be Tarrant's words. Apparently he has no passion and doesn't want to play for Collingwood.
Seriously though, Tarrant does show signs of leadership, he doesn't accept mediocrity and also when McGuire announced the coaches were under review he told the playing group they should be the ones accepting responsibility, also on the ground he sticks up for his teammates, especially younger ones and gives his all on the field especially with chasing. Tell me would a man who doesn't have any passion to play the game almost dry hump Egan after taking that mark against Geelong and kicking the sealer? ;)

i'm honestly so happy to read that article. Shows that tarrant is really upset about the past season and is going to come out firing next year, and that will definitly, 100% be for collingwood, and for years to come.

Hopefully this shuts up all the trade tarrant rumours. He ain't going ANYWHERE.

except to the bottom of the goal kicking list. he is a mediocre forward, a bit like our forwards, he is no superstar.

Who ever is leaning against the idiot tree, please stop. This one ^ keeps falling out

At his best he is the most mobile 6ft 4 forward, with muscles on his muscles, in the game. He runs most similar sized Defenders off their feet and outmarks anybody shorter. The price he pays is that he gets the ball too far away from goal or on a difficult angle. When Rocca is there, Tarrent isn't the designated goal kicker but a foil or alternative to Rocca. He isn't as good as the key forward, particularly when he is carrying injuries.

who are your forwards???? i dont think u could seriously even call perrie (i know most people are probably saying 'who'?) a footballer let alone a forward, welsh is flash in the pan see him once a month, and mcgregor plays down back half the time. one thing is for sure, none of them have been all australian, and im pretty sure none of them have played in a grand final either. tarrant wouldnt be worth trading for all 3 of them, now rack off

spot on champ in ur description

next year with rocca as the key big bodied forward will help out tazza no end

also have t.cloke,n.buckley,a.didak,b.carracella,j.fraser & s.rusling who looks like a young tazza but only an even quicker lead playing in the forward line at different stages

very happy with those names, very happy with taz coming out and saying what he has said, just hope they each play most of the season for a change

their goal kicking power was no where to be seen when adelaide thumped collingwood by 110 points. ;)

Out of curiosity, how many out of Chris Tarrant (knee), Anthony Rocca (achilles), Alan Didak (irregular heartbeat), Josh Fraser (knee/illness), Travis Cloke (general soreness), Cameron Cloke (shoulder), Chris Egan (general soreness) and Sean Rusling (collarbone) were playing that week?

The only players in the side that day that would actually definitely get a spot in our forward line if all of the above players were healthy were Blake Caracella and Nathan Buckley, if he was playing forward at the time.

Out of curiosity, that day, did Adelaide even have 8 players injured, let alone 8 forwards? I think not. Also unavailable to us through injury, in addition to the above 8 players included Rhyce Shaw (knee), Ben Johnson(thigh), David King (knee), Tristan Walker (ankle), Richard Cole (broken hand) and Brayden Shaw (ankle)

Malthouse's quote about selecting the side that week:

"We've got to play (the kids). I had 24 (players in all) to pick from today. They've got to get up next week (against the Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome on Friday night). We'll do what we can to get them up."

There was 2 healthy players that didn't play that day: Andrew Williams and Julian Rowe, who had been dropped to work on his kicking.

Yeah, you're right, I guess that loss shows that there's no way we could improve.
