COLLINGWOOD forward Chris Tarrant has revealed the depths of his despair this year, saying he found out who were his real friends.
Plagued by a knee injury all season, Tarrant managed 17 games in a disappointing year in which the club finished 15th.
He was "embarrassed" to win the club's leading goalkicking award at the Copeland Trophy on Friday night with only 36 goals and has vowed to make amends.
"I think, this year, I've probably learned more than I have in any previous eight years I've been at this football club," Tarrant said.
"I've learned who are my friends and who can sort of just look at you and act like a friend.
"Hopefully, next year I'll get the body right and I can be back to playing with Anthony (Rocca), alongside each other, and hopefully creating that forward line that we all love to see and just having a crack.
"I think with a few guys back . . . the next guy standing up here next year will be a lot more than 36 goals, I can tell you that."
Tarrant said he believed the Magpies had one of the best forward lines in the competition.
