Lets not forget that Tarrant had no preseason with us. This was never going to be a good year for him. Let Pavlich show Tarrant the art of goal kicking throughout a whole preseason.

It'll be next year he comes to fruition. He's had a pretty good year considering he had no preseason.
 
Tarrant has been reasonable this year. He was poor yesterday.

The problem is, we paid through the nose for him, and he's signed up for another 3 seasons. Not smart.

On the other hand, anyone who thinks that Medhurst >>> Tarrant has no f*cking idea. I liked Medders but he's a one trick pony. Tarrant does the grunt work and defesive pressure much better.

Don't let him inside the forward 50, though.:p

Yeah sorta. I think what you do with the pick should be scrutinized but I also believe it is almost another issue separate to the trade. However the most absolutely useless thing to do when assessing a trade is to base it on who the other team drafted with the pick you gave away.

Why?

Evaluating trades is all about one-upmanship as far as footy supporters are concerned.

I agree its hypothetical, because clubs might have different selected players with a pick they traded, but isn't it a more concrete comparison than judging a player against the place of draft pick itself? You seem to be suggesting giving a hypothetical value to the draft pick that doesn't necessarily reflect what that draft picked netted. It's fair enough in theory, but if we looking at the net effect of trades then we have to look at the net effect of the selections made with traded picks.

Like it or not as soon you as talk about about trades that involve draft picks, trading and drafting cease to become separate issues. At least in the hypothetical realm of post trade discussion/one-upmanship in which the Tarrant trade debate belongs anyway.

What the hell are you on about? We should never have traded for Tarrant, simply because WE DIDN'T NEED HIM. We needed midfield pace, we threw away any chance of it in a highly rated draft, and now we're behind where we were at the end of last year.

Who's going to replace our best midfielder if he retires?

Please read my posts before making a fool of yourself.

The post you quoted had no comment on the merits of the Tarrant trade itself whatsoever!

It was in response to Jabso (who I quoted) saying that trades and drafting are separate issues. My post was about the way in which trades are measured.

Pfft. I'm sick of reading defences for why we **** trades up. Were you defensive about getting Anderson for Abraham? Or Croad for the number 1?

I'd like a chorus of our supporters to agree, and say LOUDLY to our club, QUIT ****ING UP THE TRADES.

I'm sick to death of it.
 
i love taz but was not sorry to see him go as both the pies and taz needed to try something new, however i was hoping to see him tear it up over there. if his calf problems are now right and maybe with a full preseason it will all turn around. anyhoo good luck with the enigma that is tazza.

I was disappointed with Tarrant too, but the game wasn't lost there. The game was lost in the midfield, and perhaps even at the selection table.

Look at these speedsters - Shaun McManus, Troy Cook, Matt Carr.

Compare them to Lenny Hayes, Nick Dal Santo and Leigh Montagna. :thumbsd:

Starting a thread with "!!!" in the title and a one word 'assessment' of a player is piss poor.

Yes, the club should have know that Peake, Schammer, and Browne would not be available, and that we would need to cover for a delinquent small forward.

Adding Tarrant to our forward line should aid our midfield problems, because it is not simply an issue of pace, it is often an issue of decision making. They had been forced to only look for Pavlich as our almost singular tall option, which slowed movement of the ball through the midfield. A powerful marking forward line should enhance movement of the ball through that area of the ground, and if the ball is being delivered forward quickly and decisively, we won't have pace issues in the midfield. Once our forward line is working well, and if Farmer can keep his fingers out of other players eyes, we'll be doing fine, which is not to say that our midfield is not an area that needs attention.

You always struggle to replace your best players when they retire, but in this example, Schammer was designed for that purpose.

Tarrant !!, Reiwoldt !!, Sandis Injury !!, Pavlich !!, Glenn Jackovich !!, Mark Harvey !! etc etc etc.

After he said that Sandi getting injured this year was the best thing for Fremantle I can safely say that he doesnt know much.

Sandilands is overrated, he can't take a contested mark, and struggles to take an uncontested mark. He's on a huge contract, and cannot take a ****ing mark. Unbelievable. Both Gilmore and Warnock give a lot more around the ground. And put them together, they are half the price.
Sandilands, overpaid and overrated, same goes for Tarrant.
 
Tarrant is not the problem. Tarrant is a bloody good forward who has had the yips.

He is not a god... if the ball doesn't go forward enough, he cannot have an impact.

We took the ball inside 50 44 times which is probably a season low.

The midfield is the issue. Tarrant has worked so hard to have a good season - give the guy a break. If he had been converting a bit better, he would be one of the top half dozen forwards in the comp.

That was 12 weeks ago. I've changed my view. Haven't changed re: Sandliands though, been the same all the way through.
And don't have a go at me coz I am bringing things up for debate. That thread above was to Collingwood fans, and most have come on and said that Tarrant will do Freo supporters heads in. And that is my feeling.
So Get ****ed.

You didn't really bring it up for debate though. You more or less had a snipe at him. You weren't critical about his performance, you just flat out bagged him.

Though as soon as Tim Lane brought up Tarrant having a quiet game in the last quarter, I knew someone was going join in and lay into him here.

I think you need to listen to what Mark Harvey said about Tarrant last week.
