So he had a bad game he has been good every other game.

How can you harp on Tarrant when our midfield managed to get it inside 50 a total of 44 times... you aren't going to win football games getting it inside 50 44 times, and basically gives Taz no chance.

Tarrant has had his moments this season.

Each time I see him play I can't shake the nagging thought that he has some mental hang ups for being rejected and feeling like he needs to play for himself.. Anyone agree?

Tarrant has been one of our best all year, should finish top 10 bnf. Didn't have a great game today but who did.

One things for sure he's going to rival dessie as #1 scapegoat in the next season or 2.

I always think awesome athlete, shame he's weak mentally. Maybe not even weak, just not the right kiler instinct and nerves of steel it takes to be a champ at this level. I also always think why, of all the types of players we didn't need at last years draft did we fixate on him. I like the guy and he's played some good games but I just think why did we go after him instead of some midfielders.

That's the thing, when you pay over the odds at the trade table for an inconsistent pretty boy there is going to be a huge focus on their performance. It wasn't the fault of Croad, Headland or Tarrant that the club paid too much to secure their signature, but unfortunately they have to suffer the consequences.

We have the midfielders but have not given them a go for whatever reason.

Tarrant was shragged heaps today for no reward. As soon as he got pinged for HTB when he handballed off I knew we were never going to win this one.

Lets pass judgement after 2008 hasn't had apreseason after surgery on his calves. with afull pre season and amuch simpler and direct game plan from harvey, you'll see a marke dimprove ment. he still commands the a good defender from the opposition.

I think his role will change in 2008 with pav being used more as a Jimmy Hird aroving commission from centre going forward. He will along with campbell be the go too men.

Did you watch last nights game? In neither that game or today's game did the umpiring affect the results, but the Melbourne v Collingwood and St Kilda v Fremantle games were two of the worst I've seen from an umpiring perspective. Half of the frees paid in both games were embarrassingly soft. What happened to prior opportunity? There were 59 frees paid in our game, 4 years ago it would have been in the low 20's. Since they have put microphones on the umpires they think they are celebrities.

We all groaned at the over umpiring today, even when Freo got soft free 's awarded. Didn't see last nights game but today's was the worst over umpiring I have seen in a long while.

Agree with your thoughts on Taz. Shows much ability and generally works hard but so rarely does he stand up and stamp his authority. Frustrating!! BTW Medhurst was good last night, pretty much saved our bacon and is starting to get respect from pie fans:thumbsu:.

Ahhh Tarrant the scapegoat. I think next year, as long as your new coach whoever it may be, plays him in the right role (I.e. HFF/lead lead lead, almost a free role) and once he finally gets used to the players around him, he will be a good and important part of your team. His key weapon has always been leading, marking and his ability to smartly move it on and even hit targets with smart passes to an open forward line.

Having said that I thought that Freo trading for Tarrant was a mistake. Your coaching/recruiting staff overrated your own list and thought any big name will do. Many media types also lauded the arrival of Tarrant and thought that with Pavlich also there you would be unstoppable. While you didn't have the strongest forward line in the league, you had other areas you could've concentrated on first, and perhaps someone thought that the addition of Tarrant would make the forward line the best in the league, but it was never going to be so simple.

The trade itself was a pretty even one I thought. Essentially you gave up something like Polak a promising but troubled player who never really solidfied his place, Medhurst an enigma that couldn't get a game and pick 13(?) which is no big loss. We got pick 8 (Ben Reid) in a great draft and Medhurst who has shown glimpses of turning it around despite some inconsistancy.

No he hasn't. I don't understand this thinking. Last season, Tarrant himself said that he was poor, and it led to him being traded. This season he has had less possessions, less marks, and has kicked less goals than at the corresponding point of last season.

I'm amazed to think that anybody could possibly think he has been good this season, when in my opinion, he must be the most disappointing big name trade for a long time. Anybody that feels otherwise must be quite accepting of mediocrity it would seem.

I hope that Tarrant does come good because Medhurst is now showing form, and most importantly, Ben Reid starred yesterday for Williamstown. I don't know if he ever will though.

I enjoyed watching Medders get a few last night. I always liked him and was sad to see him go. He's obviously starting to feel at home and is working well in your forward setup.

It's not just Tarrant..this is not a troll but Freo served it up to the Eagles and showed that they have what it takes. Eagles were at full strength, home crowd, no excuses just beaten by a very good Team on the day. So why can't you guys play with that spirit against other teams, in particular those from the East? Is it a simple case of between the ears? Why doesn't Josh Carr wear Del Santo? All I can say is that Freo can match it with the best when they are switched on. Very frustrating...yes I admit I would like to see the Dockers do well.

fix his goalkicking or get him fit so he can really run hard up the wings like he did in 2003 for his AA selection

I say we concentrate on the second option because the first one seems nigh on impossible.

I've never been less confident of any Freo player lining up for goal in our entire history. And that's saying something considering some of the spuds we've had in our forward line over the years. I don't even get particularly excited when Taz takes a mark inside 50. I just pray that he gets lucky and somehow gets it on target. Even the goals he kicks are all wobbly disasters that somehow float through. (With the notable exception of that set shot from the boundary the other week)

However his lead up work outside the 50 is superb. The further away from goal we can keep Taz and the closer we can keep Pav the better off we'll be.

Medhurst > Tarrant.

Where was Tarrant after the first quarter? I don't think I saw him have one possession.

You might be right on that one, he could actually be worse than Kingsley Hunter:eek:

Spot on.You can only rate the number selection in the draft not the player because who knows who will be selected and how well they will be at the time.

It is interesting that you have declared Harvey's gameplan will be simpler and more direct.

What we have seen since Harvey has taken over is more shorter kicks and less inclination to kick long to a contest.

Do you have some inside info to suggest that Harvs will turn his back on the gameplan he operated under during much of his time at Essendon and adopt a more Kangaroo-like, bombing it forward, simplicity in his approach?

Don't get me wrong, I am 100% behing Harvey if he stays in the role next year (no matter what he deems the best strategy), I just find it interesting that you have attributed a game-plan to him that he hasn't really used so far and that hasn't necessarily been in his coaching make-up.
