Taylor Duryea

He took another step forward in his development tonight. That mark going back with the flight was fantastic.

The most impressive thing though, was that he thought his way through the play at different times, and took players on, which shows he's growing confidence in his reading of the play, and the lift in intensity.

We have a player.

There were positives. The negatives were the fumbles at certain times. However you'd have to say he did pretty well overall.

Yep. He's composed with the ball, fearless without it - but is still operating at 110% out there - rushing things and occasionally this brings about a fumble.

If he was pulling out of contests, or taking safe options with time it might be a sign of a greater issue, but he's not - so it's just an issue of feeling comfortable in being out there. Another 5-10 games and it will (should) be a thing of the past.

Couple of costly turnovers, but he's got great athleticism and already showing the kind of composure an AFL standard back needs. Really happy that's he's in the team. Thought Shiels was super solid tonight too without being breathtaking - a lot of our guys - Bruest, Gunston, Shiels etc are really building into the season, getting better each week. We just need Lewis to get on board now..

But TD was good again tonight.

The kid has guts, I'll give him that. Players with genuine courage are a pretty valuable commodity too.

Tonight was a pretty tough test for him, the pressure was immense. That mark in the last quarter proved he didn't drop his head after making a few mistakes earlier on, which I also think is a promising sign. Right now I definitely have him ahead of Cheney as Guerra's future replacement.

He'll get the fumbles and cute play ironed out with more game time. Solid Goo replacement at the least imo. Could even turn out to be quite a good player if all goes right.

Agressive, knows how and when to spoil, takes the play on, has a decent boot on him. He'll be fine.

Does he generally have good hands ? He did fumble badly a few times but first game nerves can do that.

I ask again because there where 2 goal costing fumbles tonight again. Looks a gun but that's potentially 24 points turnaround right there.

Made a few errors but Sydney don't give you much time and space. Seems to fit right in that often you don't realise he's only playing his third game. Moves nicely with ball in hand and that mark in the fourth quarter was a gem. He is a tough and gutsy player and with some class to boot. I am going to enjoy watching him develop.

Plays with pride for that jumper. Took the hit and was courageous. Some fumbles and composure can be ironed out through experience. We have a keeper here.

I was worried when Suckers went down and i never thought that Taylor Duryea would cover him but as someone suggested before defensively we are better and i love the way he has just slotted in without looking out of place. He may of made the odd mistake as previously mentioned but who doesn't.(except Hodgey,Bruesty and Cyril rarely anyway)But would like Suckers left foot available now aswell(Greed is addictive)

I think Cheney should be used as a squad player and get about 5-10 games a season to give someone like Burgoyne, Mitchell, Guerra a rest. Otherwise we move him on.

Thought that was his worst game thus far ....we all know he's tough and fearless ...
But I know he's much better under pressure than he showed last night , he is also cleaner than that .....
He WILL improve in those areas with more games/game time and become an accomplished AFL player .
Needs to slow down a little and assess the situation a little better , perhaps take the game on and believe in his ability to be an attacking player .
Just love this kid and the way he plays the game .... :thumbsu: f

I'm not so sure that players like that really exist. Those 5 or 10 games are better going to a younger developing player. So the question for me is, is Cheney a developing player?

Duryea looks like a good long-term player. The problems with his game so far are things that will be ironed out by experience. He seems to have the attributes that are either just there or not there, like courage and mental strength. What he lacks, I think he will develop as he plays more senior games.
