Especially if it means dumping Stanley
I might do my votes on Thursday. If Harry's handful gets Rhys dropped then 5 votes it is.

Bump..

Surely he's now the option by virtue that the other options are dross.
We react each week to what we just saw.
Now Harry is KF of the week.
Last week Danger.
It's a week to week issue.
I just want to see us win more than 1/2 our last h & a games.
I had us for 12-13 at the start of this year, so if we exceed that, good stuff.

There's a huge recency bias to evaluating what positions should be held. Easy call to make after a good game, but it turns quickly and soon enough they should never have been left there.

We have here a player who has shaped games at both ends and people want to nail him down as either a forward or back. Maybe he's both depending on needs and form? That's my approach to him.

pretty much, but in some ways that undersells what he's done this year..

I reckon his efforts up forward this year have been commendable. Looked lost at first and took some time to find his feet and work out how to play his role, but Harry is a thinker and he's pretty much got it nutted out.
Went back to defense again and immediately looked freer and played as well defensively as he ever has. But that shouldn't overshadow the fact that he was making some serious progress at CHF after an admittedly shaky start.

whichever end the wind is blowing to

20 goals for the year to date after a slow start and having played a bit of time down back as well. Not a bad return, all things considered.

He's a rarity for our forwards in that he seems to prefer kicking a bag over chipping in more regular small numbers.

Moving Harry forward used to be Plan B.

I reckon we have two Plan As now.

Harry is the only player on our list who could potentially kick 3 goals in a half in a final, and then switch back and dominate the play.

I feel his experience up forward this season, as bumpy as it has been at times, will hold us in very good stead next month.

The history of the game has plenty of examples where certain players matched up well on others.... Longergan Franklin being the obvious example , only repeated examples will show if its the case here or Taylor is finding his own rhythm as a forward. The core reason it may have worked was that Rance is so offensive and Taylor wins by just shutting him down. Does Rance ever play a totally negative role?

There is no doubt that HT has always been a very good mark , to mark as a forward usually means a defender trying to spoil..does Rance do this or does he back himself? Id like to see Taylor v Lonergan at training...i suspect it would depend a lot on the quality on ball delivered.

My main gripe about Taylor as a forward is his kicking at goal. He is not a stereotypical setshot but since putting in hours of practice on his own insistence..he has become better.... and the more he converts the more he will be confident about it.Several observations about Taylor mention his diminishing speed ...so perhaps if he is to continue to play it must be as a 1o1 forward. Maybe this allows Hawkins to roam further outside the 50 which he actually looks quite natural at.

The collective speed of Hawkins , Taylor and Menzel is hardly worrying for opponents and may get exposed on more open grounds. It would be very handy to have them surround with the likes of Cockatoo and Danger to add vicious defensive speed.

I know it's a small sample size but the 3 games he has played predominantly forward against top 4 opposition he has done very well. I thought he was one of our best in the Crows game at KP - with 16 possessions, 8 marks, 2 goals, 6 inside 50's and 3 goal assists. Then he's kicked a bag of 5 in the rematch at AO and dominated Rance while kicking 4 against Richmond. Importantly I think he can be that wildcard to stop Menzel and Hawkins being nullified in scrappy finals, or he's shown he may just take the mantle himself. We're tall enough down back and Buzza is too inexperienced, so I say Harry should stay forward for the rest of the season.

Out of interest, for all the talk of Smith and Hopper, where do people see this in 2018? Does he go there again? Does Lonergan retire and he go back? Does he retire?? The tall forward line depth is depleted.
Assuming Lonergan does retire then it depends who they put more faith in - Gardner or Buzza. If Buzza plays forward then you'd assume Taylor goes back to be the veteran marshaling the defence. If they decide to bring Gardner in, perhaps Taylor stays forward. I say this because they don't appear to rate Kolo as a key position prospect. Perhaps that will change once Lonners leaves.

Other than him missing a couple of shots.. just like he did at the start of last year.. were we happy with Harry up forward on his return to the role?

He marks the ball so much better than Buzza.. which is a flaw Buzz has to work on or he will not make it.

I do have to wonder.. where would he be playing if Sav was fit... but he is not. So its a forward spot if we do not want to mess up the backline.
Ironically I think if we are going to play mainly man on man in the backline ..id have Harry back there. Generally I have enjoyed the refreshed backline..but if he goes back..Henrys spot probably is vulnerable.

I guess the obvious question I have is .. if he is going to play forward .. will he be a reliable shot at goal under pressure? He is a such a natural markbut his setshot kicking is far from natural. I question his set shot routine. Without looking at vision .. I cant remember Harry ever doing the Fred Flinstone stuff when he marks the ball and then kicks it when he is in the backline. My guess is he look at the player and kicks and doesnt even think about it.. but without practice..shooting at goal will make your think about it. To me watching him he need to work on getting his set shot back to as normal as possible. He needs to practice over a man on the mark ,( maybe after the other night he needs to practice over ten people on the mark) and getting his step number down pat..once that becomes set he will get to a more natural setshot routine. He can honk a ball..so I don't see why he is inhibited other than the fear of failure. Successful practice should rid him of that.. How amazing would it be for him to get a setshot after the siren in a final and he nails it this time. Of course .. failure will bring its own consequences.. so he needs to really practice it.

Very.
Clunked the ball in the air, provided a genuine target and from what I saw was constantly active and kept his defender busy.
Just has to stop those stupid short distance chip kicks that he does, they are wildly inaccurate.
