And never did he look like doing so, let alone kicking a "bag". We don't have to actually pretend that Taylor up forward is a good idea just because we're scoring well.

I wonder if (hypothetically - I have no idea whether he clicked immediately or not) you ever were this quick (it's been 5 matches FFS) to dismiss Lonergan as a defender when he first made the switch. Or Ablett the first few times he played as a pure midfielder

No, certainly not, because the moves made sense and suited their strengths. More so, they looked at home the moment they switched in - for Taylor, it's been eight games (3 JLT, 5 H&A) and all have been completely ineffective. Furthermore, forward to defence or half-forward up to the middle is an easier switch than CHB to CHF. The last player at Geelong to do it was Ben Graham - and while he made the move midway through his career, he didn't look completely comfortable up forward until his final year in 2004.

FWIW, Taylor to CHF worked well five years ago because he had the leap and the agility to make it work, despite his years in defence. He does have a bag of six to his name - but he seems heavier and slower now.

Lonergan was a failed forward that came back through the reserves and took over the KPD hole left by Harley. It was never a mistake because it was obvious he wasn't cutting it as a forward with Hawkins emerging. And I don't think anybody is ever against a young well performing small forward spending time in the midfield. It's not about the 5 matches Harry has played forward, it's about the stunning career's worth of football we've seen at CHB sacrificed.

I'm guessing he was because Lonergan and Ablett were not 30 years of age when they made their positional switch.

Use that brain of yours Phatboy and think rationally mate.

he won't perform like that every week but jeez ..its good to see it finally pay off!
He doesn't need to play like that, just present be a target take a few grabs maybe average 1.5-2 goals a game would be solid enough.

To be fair he had showed good signs in other games but missed a number of very gettable shots. He does bring defenders away from Hawkins, applies good pressure and squares contests regardless. Worth persisting with as his attributes are helping that forward line more than the current backline mix (especially while slow Lonergan is there).

Great work Harry! If Harry keeps performing well at CHF it allows us to give Gardner a few games at FB and manage/drop Lonergan at times (instead of moving Harry back).

Unfortunately it's going to be harder for Buzza to get some games as CHF/2nd Ruck with Harry playing that well.

Good problem to have if it continues. Think Henderson returning helped a lot, what he brings & allows for us is underrated.

Part of me wonders weather last night wasn't a total result of what had happened previously.

For the first five or six weeks, Taylor had freed up space for Hawkins but had butchered all of his own chances.

Is there a chance that after seeing that, opposition coaches get to the point where they ask why they're wasting players guarding Taylor, who is doing no damage, send extras to Hawkins and suddenly when that happens, Taylor has a night out?

Yes but 5.0 from setshots.. without conversion we still be saying his a waste of space on the forwardline. Id like to know how much time he has spent at Deakin practicing.

8 shots for the season before last night (plus an OOF from memory) so even accuracy aside his productivity was way up.

I have to admit, it's slightly disturbing. But Harry has had a tough couple of months and it was clear that he was very excited about his goals. If he believes in himself he will be the answer to our half forward issues.
