Bomber Thompson is a multi premiership winning coach who's twiddling his thumbs on the sidelines. He'd be a heap cheaper than Clarko, might even be cheaper than Teague. Do it Carlton and give us the lols we've come to expect from your club.

Not sure how long those guys have been there but surely this is the third failure since sacking Ratten? Who is accountable for that?

An AFL board is honorary.

It’s not the same as a politician or corporate board memeber being made accountable through losing their position, with it coming the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars of income.

Board elections are the time the Carlton members will determine if there’s accountability to be had. Even then, there would need to be alternative parties willing to open themselves up to public scrutiny, with zero direct financial reward, who are more capable than the incumbents.

I have a friend who was interviewed for a potential AFL club board appointment. He’s a successful CEO of a relatively well known company and is a true supporter who loves the club. The interviews were conducted by current board members. He got really bad vibes and lost interest as a result. This is a club that people would consider successful and stable in recent times.

It’s not as simple as sacking a board and then finding however many replacements who are willing and able to do a better job.

That's true, but Teague (from the board's perspective) is still an unproven, unknown quantity at some level. Whereas Clarkson is a proven Finals winning, Premiership winning coach. If you had the option between maybe being a Flag contender in 3-4 years time or almost certainly being a Flag contender in 5-6 years time which would you choose?

Having watched Melbourne go through a few coaches post Daniher, and then appoint Roos over another Bailey or Neeld type, the best thing was the greater footy world acknowledged Roos could coach.

So it put to bed the “Is it the players, or the coach?” question. It was clearly the players, or that’s at least what the media and MFC members were willing to accept. Roos wasn’t perfect by any means, but it bought years of respite from the speculation about the coach and their future.

That would be the massive advantage of Carlton going for Clarkson over a Scott Burns or Aden Yze or even sticking with Teague.

Yes Carlton have trodden this path before with Pagan and Malthouse, but those two were clearly of past eras when appointed. Clarkson doesn’t appear to be past it yet.

Bit harsh for Teague to be sacked off the back of a loss to the GC. They didn't even have Micky Gibbons out there.
Yeah you're spot on, or Docherty, Cunningham, Marchbank, McGovern, Williams, Pittonet. Plus all the others that have missed 5+ games this year.

Remind me of the last team to pick up a crack addict? 🤔 Pretty sure that was your mob X2.

Feel sorry for the bloke tbh, doesn't seem like an overall bad coach from his W/L record at all and he sounds like a good bloke.

If the AFL caper is not already hard enough, you are 1.5 years into a job you have worked so hard to get and the club announces it’s doing a full review. He has done very well to hold his head up and not lose his sh.t.

It was a game against Gold Coast, at home in Victoria, after they were coming off a 100 point loss. You could also say they were missing Greenwood, Weller, Markov, Thompson and Witts. Maybe others. Carlton aren't the only side with injuries.

It was an embarrassing loss.

Sorry how many flags did Cousins or Yaz get the tiges?
You were talking about Bomber Thompson....

Unlike a blues fan to sweep things under the rug, but I guess its the only way to justify sacking all of these coaches rather than the salary cap fraud that has got the club into the place it is today

Yeah you're spot on, or Docherty - skills exposed this year, Cunningham - inconsistent/VFL, Marchbank - hasn't played for 2 years, McGovern - spud, Williams - not fit, Pittonet - a ruckman that can't jump.

This.

No doubt about it, game was lost before the ball was bounced with the matchups, Coleman medal leader playing up the ground and your all Australian mid starting in defence. My point was more the injury list for Carlton this year has been alot more extensive than Gibbons, it's been the worst AFL wide by far. But that's still no excuse and exactly why the coach will be let go

No, I wasn't. I was replying to the Richmond poster in regards to his bomber comment, reminding him it's the tiges who've picked up the last two known crackheads in Cousins and Yarran
