Looking at this weeks game I'm thinking Sydney's main forwardline matchups for us to counter will include O'Loughlin, Everitt, O'Keefe and Playfair.

O'Loughlin - similar player to Motlop. We can't afford another medhurst, motlop type performance here. Our best stopper Paddy Ryder should get the gig as he has the pace and smarts to go with him.

Everitt - Mal Michael has the strength to counter him.

O'Keefe - bit of a difficult matchup as he's a bit big for our standard flankers. I'd bring Tayte Pears back in as he matches him well for size and should have the pace to stick with him (Lovett-murray would have been handy...)

Playfair - if fletcher is right to go this should suit fletch as he can match him in every aspect and try and run off him.

If fletcher doesn't play then atkinson has to come in. Courtney johns can't play defence unless he matches up on everitt.

I'd have the side this way:

B: Ryder, Michael, Hislop
HB: Pears, Fletcher, Nash
C: Stanton, Watson, Winderlich
HF: Lovett, Johns, Reimers
F: Neagle, Lloyd, Jetta
Foll: Hille, McVeigh, Houli
Int: Laycock, Welsh, Myers, Monfries
Emerg: Atkinson, Ramanauskas, Slattery

Ins: Pears, Fletcher, Winderlich, Reimers, McVeigh, Laycock
Out: Dyson, Atkinson, Slattery, Daniher, McPhee, Lovett-Murray

With McPhee out we have little choice but to play Johns as a key forward target as there's not many options unless they opt for daniher.

Preety good but I think Ryder and Flether should do a bit of a switcheroo. Ryder looks uncomfortable to close to goal, as in the Collingwood game.

And also Everitt will probably be rucking alot of the game i would think, but if he does go down forward Mal is his man.

You might have to rule a line through Hislop, he was in tears this afternoon.

Any idea what happened to Hislop mate? Can't believe this. What do we reckon the odds of Winders coming back are?

Came off holding his wrist/thumb. Winders, Fletcher, Lonergan McVeigh, certainties. Lucas kicking goals from 50+. Young Gumbleton was running at good pace from goal to gaol. Laycock fumbling on a beautiful Autumnal day with a gentle zephyr from the north west.

Not wrist again? Didn't he just come off a wrist injury? Ahh Lucas, how we've missed you. Excellent, excellent news on gumby. 10 games into him this year (as well as a new contract signed) would be excellent news. Except for the fact about Hislop, and well no surprise about Laycock, sounds like good news all round.

tend to agree but i'd be hesitant to put fletch on o'loughlin first game back.

jolly will do the majority of rucking for swans so mal should get everitt.

thats a shame for young hislop. guess it means rama should come back in.
sounds like lucas should be lining up against richmond next week. i believe the injury list ruling is 8 weeks so would think he'd be available for r9.

In: Fletcher, McVeigh, Winderlich, Laycock
Out: McPhee, NLM (susp), Hislop (inj), Johns (omitted)

First three outs and ins pick themselves.

Johns omitted simply because there is no matchup. I'd expect to see him back shortly if he is dropped.

Ryder wasn't convincing in the ruck, and Laycock is therefore essential.

Possibly Rama and Lonergan in, but can't see anyone who really deserves to be dropped.

It's no good dropping players simply because they made mistakes in a game where we got belted.

Give the kids time.

It looked to me like he was trying to jump around (or over!) Brogan and Lade. That implies that he doesn't have the confidence in his body to ruck a game at AFL level. Playing in the ruck myself (admittedly at an abysmal level), the primary rule is make a lot of contact. Even if you don't win the ball, you gain a psychological advantage, and will have better success throughout the rest of the game.

In short, Ryder needs to bulk up for another year before he can be picked as a ruckman. Play him back, forward, in the middle, on the wing, just hold off on the ruck.

Maybe so, but I still feel, that I'd rather keep him going there. Plus, althought Laycock had a decent game last week in the VFL, it was the only decent game this year from him. I want to see him do that for 3 weeks straight.

INS: Fletcher, Winderlich, Reimers, McVeigh, Lonergan
Out: , Atkinson,Monfries, McPhee, Lovett-Murray, Welsh

Changes will look something like that imo, the fact both Myers and Daniher din't play VFL indicates to me that they will retain they're places.

I hope these 2 play all year. Myers esp did nothing to suggest getting dropped. Really looking forward to follow-up game.

I think Angus should get another game. He was far from terrible last game
