Don't worry joey. E87 has hate for anyone who wasn't a top20 draft pick... He doesn't let little things like actually watching a player play confuse him so he always has his pre-determined hate lines ready.

Congratulations to Wilkes. About time my man got a shot. Can't wait to see him back in action and show his worth.

No, E87 has been watching, Steel. I'm not bagging Wilkes but he was pantsed by Hansen, of all people, last week and sent forward to try and have an impact. He's been played forward for the last 10 or so games. It is a curious decision, particularly if Spangher is OK this week and plays for East Freo? I am tending to go with the earlier skeptic, we are showing him off to the Doggies? Who will he play on? Hahn, might be an OK match up for him, we'll see.

Wilkes must have got 4 or 5 BOG's in a row playing CHB earlier in the year. Yes he hasnt been in the best form of late but suggesting he is a spud is a load of bollocks considering the job he did last year in a much worse team.

Sort of agree with that part. Just saying his recent form hasn't been that spectacular, but hopefully he takes his chance and has a blinder, we stymie their forward line and have a win, on the road!:thumbsu::)

Wilkes provides zero rebound.

Wilkes has plaued exclusively on talls apart from a couple of pantsings when he has a crack at O'Loughlin and similar.
Yeah, looking at the Bulldogs lineup the only matchup I can see for him is Minson, who Brown could've comfortably taken.

Odd inclusion at best. Thought Schofield might of got a go being a Telstra Dome specialist and also doing the job on Gilbee earlier on in the year. My line of thinking would be

M.Brown on Hahn
Glass on Johnno
Wilkes on random tall dud (Minson for example)

Hope Scooter gets the job on Aker. Will be a hell of a job for him but I think he can take him. Think Paddy Wack will do a job on Gilbee.

Could be seeeing if he's delist material.

I think the Match Committee already has a view on that, I'm not surprised by his selection and am somewhat surprised that he hasn't been selected before this. However, he is very much a 'fill in' player and for this game that's exactly what he will be doing.

Hate is a ridiculous word in this case. He just isn't very good at AFL level. Chad Fletcher has been better at WAFL level than Wilkes and has been better than pretty much anyone on our list - how has that translated to AFL level?

Wilkes was, IMO and the opinion of many other, ordinary/average last year. He got plenty of games and game time and apart from one game, when he bodied up well of 4 or 5 occasions with Jono Brown he was poor - every game he made 3 or 4 inexplicably bad decision or skill errors that resulted in goals - its imperative for defenders to be as mistake free as possible. In addition, his WAFL form has tailed off and he has spent most of his time as a forward.

He has had about 5 AFL pre-seasons by now - this increased level of strength and fitness plays out well at WAFL level but at AFL level its no advantage and it comes to to ability - he is limited in that area. As I said, he is an ordinary player, a Trent Carroll type, works his arse off but is just average....

The bigger issue is why play him v the Dogs? Mitch Hahn is smart and athletic and will run him around .... Will Minson? maybe.

Just seems an odd selection unless someone else is doubtful that we dont know about.

haven't seen enough of wilkes to have a full opinion, but the one game i saw late last year (St Kilda victory) he was pretty good in.

Seems opinions are wide and varied on his ability.

Pity MacKenzie is injured but it's not gonna hurt him to just get through the rest of the season and build for next year. Next year he could really make the step to being a top line key position defender.

West Coast are $9.00 for the win

would be the upset of the year but great return.

all this discussion about him playing well at chb is all good and well but the fact remains, who will he play on????? hahn will chop him, minson will get glass and who else is there that is over 6 foot??? pointless selection.
imo wilkes is a meh player anyway, jj or davis would have been the smart selection but hey, who am i to tell woosh how to coach..

Pretty good is pretty vague.

We won that day against a very flat Saints. Wilkes spent time on Kind/Gardiner when resting and also on Riewoldt. Riewoldt kicked 5 and was the Saints best.

Wilkes and Mackenzie were our key defenders. Kosi didnt play.

I don't think the opinions of most on here who have capacity to identify talent are that varied at all.

He is a crab - but lets hope this week is his "exception that proves the rule" week and he does ok. Much like the Saints game last year, he may end up with the out of form resting ruckman, which seems to suit him. :D

I can only assume Spangher is still injured. Putting Wilkes in against a fast bulldog team is ridiculous though. Will get killed more than he usualy does

I don't think Spangher would do much better. He has pace, yes, but just doesn't cut it one-on-one. With the bulldog's good delivery into the forward line he'd be torn to shreds.

Wilkes wouldn't have been my first choice (but I'm not a big fan) I would rather have seen a bit of J Jones (or maybe Ash Smith) from whats been said on these boards, but meh... only one change due to injury would have to be one of the few times this year we've had an (almost) unchanged line up going into a game.

I think West Coast will win this week. think the odds are great . With all the tanking talk out of the way now, i think it will actually be good for the team to concentrate and play better now.

I wouldn't be shocked if Wilkes played forward and Wilson played back.

That would seem more logical in terms of defensive match ups.

:confused::confused:

So we ask that South settle Wilson in a position. He plays well enough in that position to be elevated and then selected. He shows some good things in that position in his first game. We win. We then unsettle him by throwing him back?

Can I ask who in the Dogs front half is a better match up for Wilson than Wilkes?

Glass will not be on Johnson, Johnson has played as a HF instead of FF pretty much all year which is why he has less goals than usual but leading competition in goal assists. Wilkes on Minson is fine but Minson only plays about 25-30% of game as forward, about 40% in ruck and rest on bench, who does Wilkes go onto for other 70-75% of time?

Dont even go there.

More chance at us beating the 46 points for the line @ $1.90 - better value.

Line is probably a good bet as I imagine it will be similar to last week. Training heavy at moment and few players out injured means Dogs need the win, but as our percentage is far greater than other sides around us on ladder it doesn't reaally matter what the margin is.

Why didn't Woosh think of that?

"Concentrate and play better this week boys"

:D

He kicked at least three of them on Spangher in the first half.

Im pretty sure that Wilkes went to Riewoldt and actually curtailed his influence on the game after Spangher had been pantsed.

Yeah, just go easy on us please :p

I hate the Dome :thumbsd:

Easy now, I just said that I wouldn't be shocked if we moved him back and Wilkes forward. I didn't say it was certain and I didn't say I'd do it if I was coach. You need to learn to read a little better, matey.

Anyhow, the reasons why I wouldn't be suprised if the move happened are:

- Because we love versitile talls and it would be a chance to test both Wilkes' and Wilson's versatility at AFL level.
- Because we are currently experimenting with what works and what doesn't
- Because Wilkes' best form in the WAFL has been as a forward (I know the same can be said for Wilson)
- Because Wilson is more agile and mroe suited to playing against a small forward line than Wilkes.
