Round 20 teams

Four in line for recall

Paul Chapman, Mark Blake, Josh Hunt and Charlie Gardiner have been added to Geelong’s squad to face the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome on Sunday.

Chapman has not played since the Cats win over the Bulldogs in round 16, but he has recovered from an adductor muscle injury to take his place in the team.

Blake missed last Sunday’s win over the Crows with knee soreness. The 21 year old is one of three ruckmen in the 25 player squad.

Gardiner, who played the first two games of the season in the senior line up, has been in outstanding form in the VFL.

Hunt has played 10 games this season and last played against the Tigers in round 18. He was among the best in Geelong’s VFL win last weekend.

David Johnson has been dropped to the VFL.

The Cats must trim the squad to 22 players on Friday afternoon.

whoops already done

Team looks so much better with Chapman in, can't wait to see Agent 33 roaming the
ground also.

I think under the Telstra Dome it would accomodate going in with the 3 talls, even
though I know Ottens is best in the ruck he is still a forward too.

I know we will do fine if we pick all three, it will be the extra's on the bench that
will count. Who will miss out ??

Charlie, Varcoe and maybe Byrnes will get the sit, leaving Enright, King, Blake and
Hunt on the bench.

It is difficult to place the three ruck combo in, if Nath stays forward and Otto on the
ball, then we miss out on having 3 players on the bench that can take either a mid,
back or forward role. With the two bench players being rucks, that leaves little room
for anyone else.

Rotations are going to be difficult also.

Re: Round 20 teams

I am betting Gardiner, Varcoe, & Hunt will be dropped from that line up. 3 rucks this week.

I think Hunt will come in actually for David Johnson. Seems logical.

Now I can officially worry. And with it being under the roof at Telstra Dome no hope of rain either. Oh well, if they run over us in the last quarter because we don't have any fresh midfielders - but have 2 ruckmen on the bench - well, you heard it here first.

plenty of midfield options there with Chapman Selwood and Enright all not being named on ground/ball.

I dont like the 3 ruck idea, but I guess if you are going to do it, do it against the best ruck in the comp to see if it works...

Re: Round 20 teams

Man I love this team :) Please don't bring Charlie in though. I guess you have to name 3 emergancies and he was good in the 2's last week. If he couldn't get named after that performance, he never would. Shouldn't play though.......

Re: Round 20 teams

Charlie?! As much as I love the guy, he is crap in the afl.

Re: Round 20 teams

You would have to say, if Charlie does get the nod, last roll of the dice for him?

Does well in the 2's, just unable to bring his game to the seniors!

Imagine if he ends up having a really good game in the seniors...

I hope Charlie does get one last roll of the dice, although i think he'll be put out of the side come Sunday.

I still don't like the three ruck combo....wait and see i guess.

Re: Round 20 teams

4 threads merged into one. Can we all look/check before we make a new thread?

Most do CF, however it takes a little while for the threads to be posted to the GFC page, therefore in the rush everyone has a shot.

Ask yourself this? Who can we least afford to lose from our lineup? Without a doubt, the answer to this question is Mooney. Midfielders are a dime a dozen, we have showed that even with Scarlett out we can restrict the best forward lines, and we have three ruckmen who are all capable of playing finals football.

Like it or not, our tall forward options are not brilliant. Mooney is a shining light, but Nathan Ablett has been struggling, and Tom Hawkins is nowhere near ready to be relied upon to take Geelong to a flag.

Gardiner's VFL form makes him deserved of a spot on the list, and like it or not, although he hasn't been a superstar, he has finals experience, and has been there before. Although I agree with previous posters that he is possibly on his last chance, there is no way that he was/is as bad as you guys make out.

I don't think he'd enjoy being the punching bag of every Geelong fan either. I have seen him play in the VFL this year, and he gives his all to us - the supporters, so why not give the boy a chance?

I've always been a supporter of Charlie. He was good and then all of a sudden he lost all confidence and decision making became crap, then lost the ability to kick.

Remember when he kicked 2 in a minute against the Lions in the 04 PF? (He didn't do much else but yeah..)

Varcoe's my punching bag (sorry), not Charlie.
I like Charlie and his snout.
I don't mind that he might possibly play, but I don't think he's cut out to play in the AFL.
Great VFL player and would dominate in any other league, just not AFL.
