You beauty - welcome back Lecca.

In general happy with those changes. Schoey and Dalziell were awful against the Hawks (and Schoey in particular has had a horrible season) and with the Dees having a small forward set-up I think Glass and MacKenzie is sufficient backline height. Will probably need Schofield back (in the absence of Brown) the following week against the Dons though.

Happy enough with Smith getting a go (not sold on him as a player but WAFL form has been good so deserves his chance). McGinnity I'm not sure on - but I assume he is in the side to tag Davey which if he can do well will be a valuable addition.

Smith as the sub I think although with Lecca back it may go to one of our small/medium forwards, i.e. Ebert or Nicoski.

Pretty happy with the changes, but I though Schofield would stay in particularly for Jurrah.

I think we tend to get a bit carried away with "ideal" match ups. I'd give Eric first go on Jurrah if he's at FF. Other then Glass, he's our best lock down defender. I like Glass in the Dustin Fletcher role.

Ultimately, I think for the most part that you should back your better players in to be adaptable then relying on "ideal" match ups with a lesser player.

Why are we throwing LeCras straight back in? Why not give him an extra week

If he's considered fit then I don't see why we wouldn't name him...

How long have you got?

The kid carves it up in the WAFL, gets rewarded with a game but he's simply not up to the level.

Low on confidence, timid and poor disposal.

Plus we've got a plethora of midfielders in the side anyway; Priddis, Kerr, Shuey, Gaff, Scooter Selwood, Embley, Adam Selwood, Rosa, Ebert and McGinnity.
You're right, let's delist him right now and keep playing the real 'up and comers' like McGinnity in the middle. FFS.

in saying that, the tall structure does look a lot better but i'd prefer 3 tall backs, 2 tall forwards and 2 rucks.

we've swapped the backs and forwards around which isn't a massive deal but to me the above there is the absolute perfect ideal set up.

your tall backs can still run and create off the half back line (particularly Schoey and Brown thought their not doing it particularly well atm) where as your tall forwards aren't as good as stopping that opposition run off the half back line.

St Kilda have shown this by having a pretty massive back line which often featues all six guys 188cm+ (Blake, Dawson, Gilbert, Goddard, Fisher and Gwilt)...

That's not what I said.

What I was saying is we've already got 7/8 better midfielders in the side right now, there is clearly no room for him.

McGinnity is a tagger, he plays an entirely different role to Swift, hence him not being in the side genius

Strong team :thumbsu:

I'm assuming Smith and Mcginnity is in because of matchups.
Hopefully Lecras will be at his best and not underdone.

Gaff as the Supersub again?

Happy with the inclusions. Hope to see Ash Smith take the game on a bit with his pace but with the dangerous smalls that Melbourne has he'll probably be 100% focused on a lock down role in the BP.

Jurrah might hurt us.. not really suited to Glass or Emac. And obviously very happy Lecca's back

Gaff sub again? Gaff was ok as a full-game player and better as a sub, so you'd think it'll be him. Ash Smith would be ok but him being in a back pocket wouldn't think it's gonna happen, plus a player of his experience isn't exactly gonna come on and tear it up.

Pretty sure he didn't say to delist him...

To be fair, McGinnity has been good in the seniors this year. Was unlucky to be dropped last week.

I think Ebert would be a good choice for the sub.

Has great endurance and ball winning ability so can run flat out for 1-2 quarters.

Can also rotate between forward and midfield, plus his disposal seems much better when he is fresh.

Only problem is I think he is to valuable to be played as the sub regularly.

Re: LeCras and Smith in.

Really thought Swift would play this week. Did he play WAFL over the weekend?

No, Swift didn't play, Claremont had a WAFL bye and travelled to Tas to play in that national Champions Cup thing ( they smashed Clarence btw).

I think Swifty is first in line for most late inclusion scenarios, expect maybe weedon's there if Lecca pull up sore after today.

Schofield out is a big surprise, and I'm starting to think we're going in too small. Schoey could have taken someone like Sylvia, and there's absolutely no cover if Glass or MacKenzie goes down...

Other than that I'm pretty happy.

Very surprised with the 2 talls out. Does leave our backline exposed nad would have prefered it be a tall foward but I'm not complaining.

Shep in for McGinnity and Schoefield in for Lynch when he starts playing crap and I'll be a happy man.

We're getting there...

Melbourne don't really go in with a tall forward line. Jurrah plays taller than he is but he's 188cm, Watts is a tall but he's so down on form you could maybe get away with playing someone like Hurn on him, and Dunn should have one of our tall defenders.

I reckon 2 tall defenders out is a smart risk this week. Gives us an extra runner if we need it. :thumbsu:

Also, McGinnity is a smart in for Melbourne, considering they have Wonaeamirri, Maric and Davey. :thumbsu:

EDIT: Well beaten to the above points.

so happy with lecras back.

not so sure about paddy mac and smith though, hopefully we can use smith's attributes to great affect. i really would've loved to have seen strijk named in the team.

so who does mcginnity play on? i'd play scooter on moloney and he's the main dangerous midfielder they have. actually, i think we've played him on davey in the past. i wouldn't mind this match up.

Probably a good decision to drop two talls - Melbourne aren't that tall. Schofield will probably be back next week because the Dons are playing four or five talls through forward and ruck.

McGinnity in to tag one of the smalls is probably a sensible decision, despite what some may think. We don't really have anyone else who can come in just to play as a tagger - I'd hate to see Sheppard playing in defence again.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Gaff as sub again - though with another long break he could play the full game if called upon.

Good to see Lecca back in - best of luck, but don't push yourself we need you against the Bombers :)

Give Scooter Paddy's defensive role, then get Swift in. Easy.

I feel like i harp on this every week so im not really gonna bother much anymore but mgginnity ffs.

Lecras in is good, i really hope we aren't rushing him though.

changes probably better than most weeks.

I almost already know the changes i want next week.

Out those lacking potential and skill - the m word, ebert, nicoski

In those with potential and skill - strijk, sheppard, masten/swift

Haha you're kidding right?

Mate we've had Swift in before on a number of occasions without minimal input.

Because of his injuries, he is far too timid at AFL level, doesn't get enough of the hard ball and he constantly turned the ball over by foot and hand.

He needs to continue to play well at WAFL level, because simply he's behind a growing list who can do his role better at the moment.

Swift is getting better by the week imo. He always finds a lot of the ball in the WAFL but he's starting to show small glimpses of 09 Swift I reckon. Give him another week or two before bringing him in
