Wow, surprised that Varcoe has squeezed into a forward pocket.
Bomber and Balmey have talked about how Rooke and Wojo are in the best 22. That leaves a bench of Blake, Wojo, Rooke and then probably Prismall and Taylor competing for the other spot.

Looks like Mackie will get Reiwolt, and we may need Taylor as backup tall. I think Prismall will be very ulucky but will miss out.

Very happy to see Trav in the starting 18.

Choosing four of the seven on the bench is going to be an incredibly difficult task.

Personally i'd go for Blake, Taylor, Rooke and Wojcinski, although i'd do that with a heavy heart as i don't want to see Brent Prismall given another kick in the teeth.

I really don't envy the selectors.

The selectors will be having a very close look at Varcoe's match on Sunday. If he is able to exert that forwardline pressure he is renowned for in a final it will be invaluable. It should sure up his spot for further finals. If he goes missing then Gamble will come in for him. Very tough call for spots atm.

Yep. Sat with Varcoe at the Season Launch (thanks to BigFooty) at the start of the year and have kept a special eye out for him ever since, glad to see him get a chance.

The selectors might think he can put some pressure on those St Kilda players running off half-back.

Given how important St Kilda's HFB'ers are, I would think Trav's inclusion in the starters is a measure to both make them more accountable and hopefully provide more defensive pressure when they're on the attack.

As for the rest...you'd think Prismall would be the unlucky one, though I'd almost be inclined to keep him in over Wojo to really exploit the Saints shallow midfield. IMO we're facing a much weaker team than we did in Round 4 - no Ball, Maguire or Dempster (though admittedley both Riewoldt and Kosi are in far better form) and I think the inclusion of Stevens and Armitage in the extended bench suggests they're acutely aware of how their midfield firepower will drop off.

Agree with Gamble and Byrnes, have has a chance for the last 3 or 4 to nail dwn a spot but can't... I would think that Taylor would have to stay but in saying that Prismall has been great so its not really justifiable to axe him..

i dont think we need harry. i dont think he will cut it on riewoldt anyway. if mackie plays on riewoldt and scarlett on kosi, then there are no other talls so harry will not be needed. if worse come to worse then harley or milburn could cover some damage

I think we definitely need Taylor. Mackie is not a key position defender - he is a tall midfielder who plays in defence. Would much rather Harry at CHB.

Well that is a sign of extraordinarily good faith being shown in young Travis Varcoe there, needs to step up now.

I personally believe Prismall is of more value than Varcoe or Byrnes at the moment but like alot of people i am torn on Harry Taylor.

I'm confident Priz will play, he deserves his spot in the team.

The obvious ones to miss out are Byrnes and Gamble.

That leaves either Harry or Wojak to take the last spot.

A great selection dilemma to have but.

Prismall hasn't done a thing wrong, and may miss first week of the finals. It will suck for him. He won't be in the hoops next year if he doesn't get a run in the finals it seems.

I'm not so sure Wojak will be in, but if he is I'd say he'll take Prismalls spot. As much as I love Wojak, I don't think he's done enough in the season to warrant coming back in ahead of Prismall.

that's the hard one. Wojak does add something different. But if he's going to play finals he needs to play this week to be match fit. Can't miss this week and then (hopefully) the week off.
