8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

Channel 10 have reported that as many as 8 clubs have contacted Hart's manager in regards to playing on in 2007.

It would kill me to see Hart play for another club. :(

Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

I would love to see Ben Hart continue on at another club if that is what he wants as he deserves it but it would be very sad to see him running around with another team.

Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

If Hart goes to another club and breaks down, there's going to be some very awkward comments.

If Hart goes to another club and plays well, there's going to be some very awkward comments.

It's a no-win really.

Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

What ever Ben decides I will support that decision. What ever happens he has been a champion player fo this club and someone who will ALWAYS be held in the highest of regards with the Adelaide Football Club and the members and supporters.

If Ben decides to play on with another club, I hope the club would trade him there without any hassle. I think he would deserve that much from us.

A very sad ending to what has been a superb career at the AFC :(

Can you trade an uncontracted player? I would've thought Hart would just be going via PSD. Sorry if I missed something in another thread. I've been a bit busy to read them all.

Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

I think it would be a stupid risk to take to pick him up with his injuries, but if he wants to play somewhere else and another club wants him, well good luck to Benny and we all wish him well.

Yes you can, if club A doesn’t accept what club B is offering then the player will simply nominate for the PSD but risk going to any club that is willing to pick him up.

:thumbsu: Agree with that.

I'd be amazed if any team actually followed through with it.

Why would they? He's got one year left, two at most, of average football. He's not a potential match winner type, like say Akermanis. He' doesn't play a position that is hard to come by. I just can't see any possible reason why another club would resort to drafting a run of the mill average defender (which is all he will be from here on in) that will be 33 next season.

If our club thought about drafting someone similar from another club I'd shake my head with bewilderment.

In conclusion, no one will take him.

Every player and official contract expires on the 31st of October every year. So in reality, Ben Hart is still contracted to Adelaide until his contract expires.

By all means he can go into the PSD or even the National Draft if he wishes to do so. What I am saying here is that if Hart wants to go to a particular club and he thinks he can't get there via a PSD or ND, he can ask us to trade him there. If this is the case I hope the club deals with this proposal with some dignity and grant him his wish even if we practically give him away. I think its the least Ben deserves for what he has given to this club.

Personally, I think he should take up the off field role with us and finish his career where he should and thats at the AFC. There is nothing to achieve by going somewhere else and if he does have the "I will prove them wrong mentality" then I think he is going around it the wrong way because that never works.

This really has turned into a real ****strom IMHO :(

Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

Hart set himself up for this with his 'I go on until they say 'no more'' attitude.

I can't see why another club would want to draft an injury-prone 33-year-old back pocket player rather than develop a kid instead.

But, hey, if it happens I wish Benny all the best. He's been a champ. :thumbsu:

The 8 Clubs that are interested, do not include obviously Adelaide along with Bulldogs and Port Adelaide.

Brisbane are also not interested, but last year apparently they offered Ben Hart a 2 year deal, but now do not want him.

3 of these 8 sides are really keen.

Well you shouldnt have sacked him then.

Re: 8 Teams Interested in Ben Hart

Whilst he may think he ahs some more in the tank, really can't see him having the heart to play for another team. The AFC is all that he has known, and as such should stay on in an off-field role instead of bowing out a year later with less dignity.

On Ch7 they said that while Hart has a strong desire to play on, he is finding it really tough because of his loyalty to the AFC. His dad said something along the lines that Ben has to decide whether playing on for a year or 2 is worth it after wonderful 16 years with the AFC.

Sounds like Ben is really having a tough time :(

It's too soon and he's probably still coming to terms with the whole situation and his emotions. If he goes away for a week or two to think over I am sure he will come to realise that the best thing for him would be to leave it at that and take an off field role with the Crows.

I will almost guarantee that Ben will after the emotion subsides and he confides with mates that he'll decide the benefits of being a one club player will outweigh all other considerations.

i'll buy that

God I'd hate to see him play for another club.

300+ games with the Crows and then goes to a Victorian club or some crap :( Imagine if he went to Port

What did you think of the club's decision?!
Tough call but Craig had all the medical reports to make the right decision.....and if he's one thing it is that he would have analysed all the scenarios very thoroughly.

IMO it was a call between Torney (who also has played very little football) and Hart......the two long termers meant you couldn't also have two (and maybe that's 3 with Welsh's record of injuries) suspect players .....could result in an effective list of 34 for the season.

The other factor I thought about is that....is Hart on the veterans list?....if so his removal would have achieved two things:

1. Another veteran could be elevated to the veterans list thus along with Harts salary free up considerable room in the salary cap.

2. Free up another spot on the list

Sorry...to answer your question, yes I'm comfortable with it....it was a great career...only a farewell game was missing
