AFL Club
Carlton
1 Gold Coast Suns - David Swallow
2 Gold Coast Suns
- Sam Day
3 Gold Coast Suns
- Harley Bennell
4 West Coast Eagles
- Andrew Gaff - This bloke seems to be a sure bet 200 gamer. WC certainly need a sure bet midfielder with this pick. Fitness and body preparation ideal for WC big home ground and travel requirements.
5 Brisbane Lions - Tom Lynch - Huge potential here that is simply too good to pass on. You don't pass on this opportunity when your 2 KPF's are getting on. Lynch will take a year or so which will nearly see Fev out. Then Browny can take it easier in the goalsquare and let this guy do the running around.
6 Richmond - Jared Polec - Perfect foil for the Martin/Cotchin combo. They will be getting plenty of ball for the next decade and Polec adds the outside run and class. Will be getting the big Tiger Army at the G excited.
7 Gold Coast Suns - Dyson Heppell - As if GC needed any more help, the highly rated Heppell will land in their lap here at 7. Too good to pass here.
8 Essendon - Shaun Atley - Thank God, i can here Jobe Watson saying. Together with Watsons ball winning ability and Melkshams cleverness, Atley,s hard running finally forms the basis of a good midfield.
9 Gold Coast Suns - Billy Smedts - This bloke seems like real class and can be moulded by GC to suit needs. To me, Heppell and Smedts on the back flanks in future years is something to drool over.
10 Gold Coast Suns - Dan Gorringe - If there is a Top 10 ruckman available, you pick him. Zack Smith and Gorringe takes care of your rucks for a decade hopefully.
11 Gold Coast Suns - Pat McCarthy - Exciting KPB who you would think is a structural must for GC to take here.
12 Melbourne - Jack Darling - Bailey has stated they need a big bodied, body player up forward. Darling is his man. His aggressiveness in game and nature should compliment Watts and Jurrah and complete the Demon jigsaw puzzle.
13 Gold Coast Suns - Brodie Smith -
Next best mid for mine. I think GC will swoop on this guy here.
14 Adelaide Crows - Josh Caddy -
After a minute break spitting chips at missing Smith, Adelaide will plonk for Caddy as the next best big bodied mid that they prefer. I was contemplating a quicker player here but i guess Adelaide covered that area a little with the Tambling pickup.
15 Geelong Cats - Matt Watson - Geelong traded to specifically get this pick...hmm what do they need that this pick can get? 1) replacement for Scarlett and Milburn 2) replacement for Ottens. I think they go for 1) and take Matt Watson.
16 Port Adelaide- - Scott Lycett - A homegrown gun young 200+ cm ruckman to replace the old warrior Brogan. A no brainer for mine. Lycett will be aripper for Port.
17 North Melbourne - Jarryd Pitt - North have great inside hardworking midfield. Cunnington,Ziebell,Bastinac and a couple others. They could add Hallihan to that or they could add the smooth skillful Pitt. Pitt completes a young midfield that competes with the best.
18 Carlton - Lucas Cook - After missing Watson i reckon Carlton will be more than happy to read out Cooks name. Cook has the luxury to be able to be groomed as a KPF or a CHB as the club sees fit. Top mark, top kick, top endurance, team oriented.
19 Hawthorn - Kiran Harper - A great fit for the Hawks i think. I think with the drafting on Hale, he plays 2nd fiddle to Buddy up front and Roughy goes to CHB ala Tarrant thus covering their KPB worry. Cyril, with a preseason under his belt goes more in the middle and Harper adds the pace and x factor up forward they need.
20 Fremantle - Reece Conca - I love the sound of this guy. Can picture Harvey salivating at him as Haselby,s replacement. If the local kid is as good as anything left, take him. It will be cheaper to keep him at the club later on.
21 Sydney Swans - Luke Parker - No Kirk, soon no Bolton. Hello Luke Parker. After taking the excitement of Rohan and Jetta last year, Parker will suit Sydney beautifully.
22 Western Bulldogs (FS) - Mitch Wallis
23 Geelong Cats - Mitch Hallihan -
The Cats will take the next best mid as they see it. They will see that as Hallihan. I think Varcoe will see more midfield time to add the pace and Hallihan has many qualities the Cats and Chris Scott will cherish.
24 St Kilda - Dion Prestia - The Saints will jump at the explosive Prestia. They have the warrior Hayes. They have the Generals in Goddard and DelSanto. They have the linkup in Montagna. Prestia adds a bit of something different.
25 Brisbane Lions - Jed Lamb - After securing Lyck earlier, they can concentrate on the fleet o footers with their next 3 close-up picks here. Lamb seems too promising to pass here. The Fev n Lamb show may get the fans flocking back to the Gabba.

Good read Wallet , you make a good case for your selections .
Hoping for Watson at 18 but agree with Cook if Watson is gone .
At 34 would be hoping Guthrie is more than just another defensive midfielder ,
Ratts already in love with Carrazzo , Joseph , Ellard etc .

Yeah i know...and that's kinda why i looked for a QUALITY defensive minded onballer in Guthrie to take the place of guys like this who, while good triers, are not going to really take Carlton higher.

If Guthrie is still there, i think Carlton should take him to add to offensive players like Judd, Murphy and Simpson.

Looks good but Brisbane need heppell/polec more than lynch.

Maybe if you only had 1 high pick you might take Heppell/Polec before Lynch. But when you have the chance to land good qualitymids later in the 20's then Lynch looks tantalising.

Can you pass up even a 20% chance of getting the next Buddy or Roo?

I personally see Mitch Clark as a free roaming Ruck, not a Forward.

Mids are our highest priority and it's almost certain that we'll take either Heppell or Polec or at least a mid with pick 5.

As an Eagles supporter I would rather that my team took one of the outside, running midfielders (Heppel or Polec) rather than the inside hard worker (Gaff) !

gaff is MORE OUTSIDE THEN INSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and plus he is much quicker then heppell

I assume you are basing this assessment on having seen them both play; which is fair enough. Gaff appears to have done better in the beep test and the 3km time trial, while Heppel was better in the clean hands test and in the jumps (both running and standing). Neither of them was top 10 in the repeat sprints,20 metre sprint or the agility run.

Gaff got a 2.88s over 20m where as Heppell got a 2.99s over 20m

Gaff has pace, where as Heppell is just reasonable.

If we are to believe the BF rumors Heppel did his testing carrying the remnants of OP and with limited preparation because of it. Taking that into account it does not look “Just Reasonable” to me.

Where did you get that 2.88 s for Gaff ? I only have the "Inside Football" draft edition and it quotes Shane Kersten and Gerald Ugle at 2.88,Angus Litherland at 2.89 and Billie Smedts at 2.91. Gaff is not mentioned in the top 10 (best is Joel Wilkinson 2.75).
