With the added weight tex put on over the summer i would like to see him play more in the mid, and let lappin take his spot on the HB flank. My only concern is that we are developing the best HB flank line ever seen. At the detroment of our mid. Thats why i was so keen to draft hurn instead of JK. But hey i hope that JK proves me wrong

Not so sure that I would entirely agree with that. Excluding Walks, we have Stevens, Houlihan, Bentick, Murphy, Carrazzo, Russell, Scotland, Simpson and Blackwell that can rotate through the midfield at any one time. Kouta is also there to play him in bursts if we need some centre square clearances.

Thats 10 players that would not look out of place in the midfield. We can still afford to use Walks as an attacking rebounder off half back, and think he might just make this position his own over the next couple of seasons.

walkers time will come

anyway, in today's game the HBF (quarterback) type role is becoming just as important as a (standard) midfield role

the great thing about walker is he is versatile, so he is never going to have 1 set position and hey may not become an out and out midfielder but he will become our 'go to man'

i agree just look how important gram became to st kilda last season running off half back. if we can get walks to do similar things he can only improve as a player, and will improve his midfield skills as well.

Thats a pretty good point there BD. :thumbsu:
With Walks and Waite both running of the half back line, we could really hurt some teams this year if they don't take us seriously.

Exactly, HBF has become much more important than it was once and a HBF flanker who is capable of providing good run out of defense is becoming more and more valuable.

Gavin Wanganeen won a brownlow playing from a back flank...

Tex is a great player.

Quick, Tough and a good handball. A better kick and he'd be the best #2 sinceHarry potter and the chamber of secrets. Jokes aside he should be playing off hbf for 2/3 of his time and the other 1/3 should be centre square.

No doubt about a very damaging player!

His kicking skills arent good enough to play in the midfield...(YET)

Another couple of years off HBF will help his decision making skills and his kicking...

Really think he will be a winger...Imagine him and Simo in a couple of years...

I think walker does an excellent job at shutting down players will still being able to counter-attack. i like where he is playing, and i like when he is accountable to sum1, because he has shown numerous times how useful he is at keeping star players quiet

yeah sure he's good at that.

but he deserves better. was taken at 2 to play damaging exciting football which he shows he is capeable to do.

give that role to a middle tier solid player like bentick and watch how easily it frees up walker

Walker, franklin.
both were grabbing the ball and running with it, franklin wasn't running nearly as far with it, nor delivering it anywhere near as far up the ground. On top of this was constantly getting, caught, travelling too far, tackled, or useless delivery. He made three or four passages of play running with the ball maybe one of these successful. Walker dud it time, after time, after time. Constantly outperforming the more fancied franklin, by miles.

The difference is this: franklin gets the spot light and attention, WOW. walker is down in the engine room. If Walker was running with the ball, the way he does now, but into the forward line he would be considered one of the most potent players in the afl.

His kicking is maligned because he does over the top things. Running down the wing with two players on him, he tries to kick it javelin pass 50 meters one inch inside the boundary to kennedy who has two players all over him. He has no other option so goes for it. he has single handed taken it from the defence to attack, but all anyone can say is poor delivery.

Walker is a machine, the bad press he gets is ridiculous and says more about supporters inability to judge players equally and over ride their own biases than it does about the validity of anyones actual opinion.

Maybe we should put walker on the ball for a while so you can see just how damaging the guy really is.

i think tex is great, but i his kicking does need some work. i think if he played a midfield role now, his kicks would need to hit the chests of our leading forwards. in a defending role, his biggest issue is to clear the ball, kickign it towards the boundary etc. not as much importance for his kicks to b spot on. main thing is to get the ball away from danger. i think, if he can shut down the opposition's best player for the day, it is worth putting walker on him. he may not be able to show off as much class, but i think itd b better for the team if the opposing teams best player had little impact htanks to walker
