Now I have notice that recently there have been a lot of complaints from people who have to put up with the so called model employee who regardless of how he feels still comes into work no matter how sick he is. I have seen complaints everywhere in papers and online. These are people complaining about the person who feels sick but still feels compelled to go to work. They believe they are creating a health hazard as such for other commuters and fellow staff who may catch their nasty flu bug.

Unfortunately if you are in my position you are perceived to be that type of employee but the reality is, is that some of us (including me) are by law required to turn up to work regardless of how they are feeling. In many industries due to the IR law changes it has become company policy that if a man takes a day off work, he must then provide a medical certificate for the days he was unable to attend work :( and no excuse as such will be tolerated. Even if I have a slight cold or a touch of gastro that even a doctor wouldn’t need to see I’d still have to take the time out of my day to visit my GP and let him tell me exactly what I already knew, I was sick with a cold

So next time you see one of us please realize that some of us are only coming to work out of risk of losing their job

My workplace actually encourages you to stay home if you have an influenza type thing . To help to try and stop the spread through the rest of the place.
